Hi,In mid October we are transporting two people from Milan to Scotland - don't ask. Anyway I am looking to book them into a Travel Lodge during the latter stages of the ordeal ( delightful trip ) either at Scotch corner, Durham or Washington, all near the A1. I need a wild parking spot near the last two, as I always use the layby at scotch corner on the A66, but would prefer to be a bit further north.

Thanks Dezi

Dezi Are you going up A1 these may be a wee bit too far but both off road
near Alnwick

55 2321-15N 1 4240-94 or 55 2904-24 1 4330-78

if you are going up the A66 I have a cracker but PM for that

my prefered road to Scotland is A66 M74

Why not try google earth

There are plenty spots in the area you want on this site. Use England - Durham

Alf 1, Last time I used the A66 - Sedbury layby by scotch corner was about 18 months.

The layby now is only accesable from the west bound carrigeway
difficult to use if using A1

Thanks Lenny, That would be helpful. In the meantime I am looking for motels around Lake Constance & Trier in Germany. My sister is a mixed blessing!!!!!

i live just off junction 59 on the A1, there's a couple of motels around, one one at that junction and one at the gretna green pub on the A167 i think (the old A1 road to durham)...if push comes to shove you could park on the road outside me house! though it isn't very wild:)

Finally stopping as near to Washington as possible. The local travel lodge have a £19 deal going - we may be inlaws but I aint sleeping with him.
