Hi all

got a couple of quiet weeks up ahead and wondered about a trip down to the tropics (Southern England)

Thought about stopping somewhere on the Thames, Marlow or Henley area and then going down to the Isle of White for a few days before working our way along the coast towards Devon and then back up to the frozen north.

I dont really know the south coast that well so any recommendations on the Isle of white and good spots between there and Devon appreciated. Things to see and do etc and also where to stay. Dont like campsites but love CL's and Wild camping.

cheers

So we are not good enough for you at Croft eh?

Nowt down South anyway.

Give us the dates you will be away please Barry... havent burgled a house for ages ;)

Dont know yet Maingate but be assured anything worth nicking including Mrs D will be in the van! I heard about the rock night or whatever it was at Croft. Whos on? dont know if its of any interest but the Dammed (YES THE DAMMED) are playing in Darlington at Inside Out on Wednesday night. Tickets £10. Got ours yesterday I think they still have some!

Cheers

You surely cannot have a band called "The Damned" playing in Darlington. Its a Quaker town.

We will be jiving to The Memphis Riders. :p

Google Croft WMC for details of their R n R nights and Country and Western nights.

did you know that the Jam and Jimi Hendrix once played in Darlo? In fact I worked in an Office in town and our training room was built over the bar where Jimi played. We called it the Jimi Hendrix room supprisingly. Elton John played there last year, The chuckle brothers. Need I go on. Mrs D once shared a sauna at the gym there with Dot Cotton!

All happens in Darlo!

BarryD has been name dropping in this thread.

I just thought that I should point out that is extremely bad etiquette to drop famous names.

Robert De Niro told me that. :D

Did I forget to tell you I once drank Pims on the back of Yacht in Cowes with Catherine Zeta Jones at Cowes Week? Yep I know a lot of people laugh at that. Strange though may sound, it is actually true. How it happened is another story which I might reveal to you later if I have a beer or 8

I would love to stay on here and reminisce but my duties as a midwife are calling me.

The next time I sign on I, hopefully, will be knee deep in Puglets.

Duty calls.

Altogether now, AWWWWWW!

Congrats in advance.

Hi, I live near Bournemouth so can help with local overnights & a few others down here once you have sorted out the route. Regarding the I of W - well its the most expensive bit of water in the UK to ferry across. Its nice & peaceful once you are there,in a 1950s sort of way, but thats about it.

Dezi

p.s. You Do remember the 1950s ?

Sounds like our sort of place. No I dont remember the 50's. I dont actually remember the 60's. I was a teenager in the early 80's and dont remember them either! Thanks for the offer to help. Not sure of exact route yet but will work on it over the weekend.

Yes the weather is a bit of a worry. Do you get any good days Nov/Dec or is it always awful!

Thought it was tropical down there!
