Well my friends,
After a certain thread left by one of our clan saying he/she would not post anymore of their favourite spots to wild camp in case it got too well visited by others -here is one of mine. Wehave never seen another van there, having said that, we've only been there about 5 times.
A lovely spot on a cliff top (No ammenaties but for 1 or 2 nights it's no problem).
NO KID RACERS, NO DRUGIES, (o.k there maybe dog walkers but you can't have it all and they don't moan!)
Well if you're going north from Whitby on the coast road go through Staithes and down a steep hill: soon on your right you will come to a layby, a farmhouse and you take the dirt track sign posted Cowbar.
Follow the the road and you will come to an open car park (NO RESTRICTIONS)
If you venture out, then comes the really good bit. A 10 minute walk down into Staithes takes you back in time - a tiny quaint little fishing village - it's unbelieveable , and the locals are so friendly,
Hope some of you will get opportunity to enjoy it at some point.
All the best WENDY&KEITH.:p

Sounds good to me, but!,, this dirt track, is it suitable for a coachbuilt to go down? Regards Nig.

Painted in Staithes a few times albeit I dont know th ecar park you refer too.

Out of interest have you ever stayed at Easington towards Spurn in the car park there and had any probs ?

Hi channa ,
there are no car parks as such at Easington but there are places to park, the nearest car park is kilnsea were we have parked a few times overnight.

I don't mind shareing my spots!, But in future I think I will share them by PM rather than 'going public' where anybody, even non members (who may not be as responsible as the majority of us) can browse them.

I stand corrected,Are you referring to the car park just passed the pub and adjacen tto a camp site ?

Last parking spot as I recall before you hit the point itself. ?

I think the point itself would be a good overnight spot assumin gnot breaking any bye laws an dupsetting folk.

Has you are aware i tis a nature reserve so i cant enter having the hound as a permanent fixture.

A few years back I used to fish there often dig a few fresh lugs and more often than not feed the resident crab population ( albeit caught a nice sea bass there once )

hi channa,in easington if you drive straight toward's the beach there is a rough car park there a large area we have stayed on no probs even gone on caravan site and used shower's:eek:in kilnsea if you carry straight on toward's the sea there is a good car park just pasted the pub we have used that aswell,if you turn on the spurn road instead of going to the sea as you leave the farms on the right hand side there is a big hidden layby not used it but would do:p

Thats the one Channa ,
Although there is a spot further towards the point just off the road, on the right,
Yes it is a nature reserve but have seen lots of people there with there dogs so give it a go.
As for parking on the point there are plenty of spots along its 1 mile length but its only a one track road with passing places so not suitable for a larger M/H.
I too have dug lug and fished there lots of times as its just down the road from me best place is the point its self but can only be fished 2 hours before and 2 hours after high water had lots of fish there in the past.

Easington,Spurn.

It,s a few years since I visited this area. I remember the lanes and roads were teaming with police driving 4x4 vehicles. Someone told me that they were thier ONLY, to guard the onshore terminal, Terrorist threats and the like.
Is it still the case, do these police leave you alone? if they spot you wilding.
Keep on wilding Nig.

I dont know about Spurn, I have stopped at Mappleton a little further north, where East Yorks/Humbeside finest still lurk about occasionally ..and no problems

Channa

There is a good parking area just before the toll point. We have overnighted there, very quiet.

Found the spot at Cowbar on Google Earth and it looks good. Havent been to Staithes for ages. Nice one for posting this! I live in North Yorshire but the other side, near Richmond. Flamborough head is our fav spot in that area but might just have a night at Staithes now.

On the subject of not posting wild spots you find and keeping them a secret. Isnt that the main point of this site, to share them?

Thanks for sharing the Cowbar spot.
