We went down towards Tenby last weekend.
Its the first time I've travelled the coast road since becoming a motorhome owner 6 months ago and I was shocked at the number of no overnighting signs, particularly on Amroth beach which to be honest with you is perfect for spending the night.
The signs look homemade and lack any official body behind them, some said by order of the local community council.

Can anyone tell me can they legally do this and if you ignore them can they do anything to you?

We carried on past Amroth so that community lost the hundred or so pounds I would have spent there and spent in Wisemans bridge instead.

Silly people, Greedy people but they are losing out in the end.

This is obviously driven by the rich caravan park owners.

wisemans was the same last year, pubbloke puts up his own signs as thats his little campsite at 25 quid a night.has that changed?

Correct. Many of the signs are homemade and put by NIMBYs or caravan park owners.

To be enforcable there needs to be lines on the roads and plates stating hours and weight restriction if applicable. There also needs to be an accompanying Traffic Regulation Order. If you come across homemade signs with no lines or plates, just ignore them.

There are no signs along the front now and the campsite was closed. perhaps he puts them out in the summer.

I spent last Fri & sat night on the front at Wisemans bridge the views Sun morning were spectacular.

I picked up a brochure on the campsite and the prices were £20 - £30 in August.

Surely this guy does not own the road and the section to the sea wall.

i was told he owned up to the raised parking area at the end, when we went the signs were all along the front but heard the locals rip them off.hearsay does my head in ,like to know for sure as its a good spot on the way to the pembroke coast

Perhaps we should call their bluff and hold a little meet there? Even if we were parked illegally they would have to get a court order to move us and that would take a couple of weeks by which time we would be long gone.

If the signs are illegal can we pull them down?

I would not get involved in taking signs down.

The reason being it is difficult to know what is highways land (verge etc) and what is private land. If they are just sited on private land even by a foot, that's criminal damage.

Think of it this way, the signs are doing you a favour. You know they are crap so you can camp there. They are just keeping off the grockles who are not as informed as you, reserving your place so to speak :)
