no campervan conflict on Tiree...

An interesting concept. I wonder if it is best to book the ferry before or after booking the campsite?

There seems to be a slight error in the story.
Yes Tiree had a problem going back a few years, this was due to it being a popular windsurfing area, but whilst they have the scheme in place there was no policing of it that I've seen, the ranger does park up at the ferry terminal, but I've never seen him check out any van, maybe that's changed lately.
Aside from that it works very well, with a water/disposal spot near the Co-op, and parking spots in some great places, but last time we where at the campsite was a bit overpriced for the facilities IMO.

Seems like a good idea, I think its been going for a while. Probably sensible on a small island like that but I am surprised they get a lot of motorhomes. Its quite a difficult place to get to, nearly a four hour crossing from Oban and not as cheap as many other routes. I hope this prebooking thing doesnt eventually find its way to Arran which has long been one of our favourites although Ive not noticed much objection to motorhomes there but there were way too many in September last year.

Flock me !
I am surprised ANY of us miserable baskets go there

It would seem that RET has been removed for motorhomes, put in a car with trailer and it's £185 vs £312 for the motorhome.

I have a feeling and I might be wrong that Tiree was one of the islands that was never on the RET scheme. I am sure there were one or two that were not.

I was supposed to travel there before covid but had to cancel due to a family bereavement. I intend to head there this year or next. I totally agree with the article, so much so I think it should be extended to Barra also. For me this strikes a good balance. We get access to wonderful islands. There are not to many vans, and we contribute to the local economy. It’s a win win for everyone. why Barra was not included eludes me. But possibly calmac will agree to the same for them also.

Mull also felt they should be included, but I see no need for this there. Mull is a massive island well capable of handling vans, what's required there are more facilities, and some common sense from everyone involved. But that’s asking to much it seems. When I say everyone, I include some within our community.

Tiree is on the RTE scheme.
As far as I know all islands including the Orkneys and Shetlands are now part of the scheme.
