Hi All

Just probing to see if anyone has any recomendations for a nice, tranquil site set next to a river ( meandering type ! ) near to Hereford / within 40-50mins travelling ? In the countryside as well please ! ;)

I am already aware of Lucksall Caravan Park near Mordiford but surely there must be others as nice as this one !

We are members of both the Caravan Club & Camping & Caravan clubs.

Get yer thinkin caps on people ....... Thanks.:D

Not sure, haven't stayed there, but I think there is one in Upton-on-Severn :)

We are looking at going on this THS TEMPORARY HOLIDAY SITE From 3rd July to the 30th July, recently joined the C&CC. Just bought an inflatable SeaEagle & want to try it out on a river so might go there this weekend.
Other than that might go & wildcamp around the Bala area & go on the lake in the daytime.

Thinking of driving down to the C&CC one at Foy on the Friday for about a week, has anyone stopped at the P&R Ludlow, It's about half way for us? Or does anybody know of any decent wildcamping on the A49 or close by on the way down from Wrexham to Ross on Wye, I have a coachbuilt 7 metre van so some of the small places aren't any good :(.

Years ago I stayed at a site in Hoarwithy, between Hereford and Ross on Wye. Racking my brains for the name it was alongside the Wye and was used by PGL tours as a beaching site.
Try Googling.

Kontiki has mentioned it the THS below is right on the river, we have stayed there and can confirm its a fantastic spot. Any C&CC member can use THS's and DA meets. They are dirt cheap but come without facilities other than an elson point and water tap. ideal we love em.
Organiser: East Worcestershire DA

Event type: Temporary Holiday Site
Dates: 03-31 July 2010
Site Name: Carthage Farm, Ross on Wye, Herefordshire

Amazing, the google map was taken during a meet so you can see where the vans are :)

If you drive through Hereford, you will go over a new ( bypass !! ) roundabout approx 1 mile after you leave Hereford. Carry on past the Grafton pub on the right ( Nice pub ! ), past the Suzuki garage on the right ..... just as you approach the large hill ( Callow Hill ) there is a huge, safe lay-by on the left hand side ............. always has M/H parked up in it during the summer. From Hereford, the lay-by is about 2 miles as you pass the BP garage on the left in Hereford.
Failing this, go up the hill and on the right as it levels out is another large lay-by.

Thanks all for the info on sites. Am looking at something with toilets / showers if possible. Seen the one in Ross ( Just off the A40 ) and always thought it looks nice..... one to consider me thinks !!!!

Might try the one at Callow Hill if we don't have any luck at the Ludlow P&R, not keen on lay bys on the main road as they can be noisy at night. We don't usually bother with sites at all normally & £6 a night is about the limit we would pay without having hookup etc. but wanted somewhere to try out our new paddleski.

I found that just before you posted it after looking along the road at the place suggested by Gixermark. Google street view is great for getting some idea if a layby is suitable or not. You can easily plan a route on google maps, a nice feature given that street view has covered much of the country would be able to drive the route (or just parts of it) in street view to spy out likely stopping places . I usually find you have just passed the ideal stopping place & there isn't anywhere close you can find to turn back

Does anybody know when you can turn up to these C&CC THS meets? It doesn't say in the book it just has the day. Only joined the C&CC as its looking like we will be stuck in the UK this year instead of going over to Europe where I am more familiar with where to stop. Bit disappointed in what some of these so called cheap CS sites charge , all I usually want is somewhere to stop with water & emptying if possible. I've been spoilt with years of touring around Europe.

There was a thread running about buying an inflatable, now we have one we are looking for sites with access to water on site or very close. Interested in any which are reasonably priced or better still wildcamping ones.

Good link, just joined the site noticed that there are 9 members registered!! So not a lot of activity there at the moment.
