Hello to all! joined a couple of motor home forums and looking for some help if poss.
I've just started looking for a motor home with a budget of £25k max, but have a few specific thoughts in mind for what we need. spent all last weekend viewing at nearby dealers etc, and about as much time reading mags/reviews etc to start to get an idea of what we need and what is out there.
What I now need to find out is practical experience from any motor homers who run one and who tow a vehicle/trailer. we have a race car and Bryan james trailer totalling approx 1200-1300kg all in, which we take to race meetings etc. as part of that we'd like to get a 2 berth motor home for overnight stops at tracks, plus touring holidays without towing.
Engine wise I suspect we will need something 2.3litre and up and 130+bhp, as my tow car is currently a bmw 530d with 220bhp and pulls easily. My old tow car was a pug 2.0l d which was underpowered at 100bhp.
In terms of motor homes we have seen a few layouts we like, but aren’t specific as yet, fixed bed would be good but our main priority is a decent washroom with head height (6ft2"me!) and a comfortable lounge, U shaped or mid, no real preference.
So in essence I’m after some advice as to a decent make/model of 2-4 berth m/home with strong pulling power and decent quality fixtures/fittings for circa £25k, which will tow 1300kg.
Is this feasible at all?
I’ll happily pay for a quality towbar fitment if the vehicle is suitable, but if we will struggle to tow I may be stuck.
overall length and height of the m/home isn’t a major issue, I have parking for something upto 7m but ideally for manoeuvring while towing I’d like to keep to a smaller length vehicle if poss. someone has already suggested a "wentworth" model to us, not sure off hand what make that is.
Any thoughts and suggestions very much appreciated. we spent a week in the lakes last week and while there noted numerous spots for caravan/camping sites and are looking forward to that area as our first motor home weekend away (non towing) with a plan to travel around the uk for short weekend breaks when not racing.
Hope you can help
Cheers
