Big Westy

Howdy folks, been reading this site for a couple of weeks & you all seem like a nice friendly bunch .... hope you've got room for one more.
I've been wild camping since '95 .... mostly up the West Coast of Scotland,
initially in a VW T25 (air cooled 1600cc petrol..... a total slug !! ). got rid of that a couple of years ago & picked up Big Westy whilst over in Germany for the World Cup last year.
She's a 1995 VW LT31D high top Westfalia.
I could bore you to tears extolling her virtues ......
so here's the short 2 word review ..... Bees Knees !!!
my computer skills are extremely limited, but I'll try & post
a couple of photos.
Thanks for all the info ... (espescially on English wild camping spots).
many of my favourite Scottish places have already been covered....
but hopefully I can add a few more ;-)
Hope to see some of you .... somewhere down on ol' Highway 61.
Big Westy.

Hello agian Big Westy  Highway 61 was that a bob dylan song :D

Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway 61."

Well Georgia Sam he had a bloody nose
Welfare Department they wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor Howard where can I go
Howard said there's only one place I know
Sam said tell me quick man I got to run
Ol' Howard just pointed with his gun
And said that way down on Highway 61.

Well Mack the Finger said to Louie the King
I got forty red white and blue shoe strings
And a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where I can get rid of these things
And Louie the King said let me think for a minute son
And he said yes I think it can be easily done
Just take everything down to Highway 61.

Now the fifth daughter on the twelfth night
Told the first father that things weren't right
My complexion she said is much too white
He said come here and step into the light he says hmm you're right
Let me tell the second mother this has been done
But the second mother was with the seventh son
And they were both out on Highway 61.

Now the rovin' gambler he was very bored
He was tryin' to create a next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
He said I never engaged in this kind of thing before
But yes I think it can be very easily done
We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun
And have it on Highway 61.

thanks for the welcome folks ....
havn't been too active lately, as I've just lost my internet connection.
having to rely on wi-fi hotspots for now.
just sold the house , & plan to start full-timing come the end of March.
I'll be wandering around the west of Scotland in April & May.
June , I'll be in northern France with an old buddy from the States ...
back to the UK in July for MOT , road tax & insurance ...
then heading south through Germany , Austria & Italy to catch the ferry
from Venice to Greece.
have a good friend with a villa on one of the small islands...
he tells me September is just perfect there, after the tourists leave.
playing it by ear after that .... Crete ? Corfu ? southern Peloponese ?
heck , either of them are bound to be better than the UK next winter !!!

someone, on another thread on full-timing ...
mentioned that the only problem they had was solitude ...
I guess it all depends on your background & outlook.
I've never had a problem with it.
I'm always happy to talk to other motorhomers I meet along the way.
I'd say 95% of them are good people ....
75% of them , ... I'd be happy to invite in for a beer & a natter.
whether they're driving a 'beat up '62 Dormobile ...
or a Hymer S820 ... makes no difference.
It's always good to share tales from the road ....
& pass along happy camping spots.
Language never seems to be a problem .... I speak fluent Eurobabble.

So if you see a Big Westy out there on your travels...
stop by & say Hi. it might be me .....

ps .. glad to see I'm not the only Bobcat around here ;-)

Good to read ya post mate, how lucky you are and i agree its not a lonely life
unless you want it to be and like you say communicate with other people who do the same thing as yourself and you will never be lonely but there are some that dont mix all that well, it costs nothing to say good day mate and start a little bit of chat that will keep the lonely feeling at bay but i have to admit that a little bit of solitude is good for the soul.
Good luck and may your God be with you.;) :D :)
