Good morning! I have just registered as a newbie and thought I’d introduce us! We are new to motorhoming and have a new to us Fiat Ducato Rollerteam 2003 6 birth van that we were hoping to use for the first time this weekend (typically though the weather is forecasting storms everywhere!) we have two medium sized dogs who will be going everywhere with us, and we hope to take the grandkids on a holiday once we know what we are doing!! We don’t yet have an ‘off grid’ set up but want to, so any help or advice around this would be great! Nice to meet you all, Naomi x

Hi and welcome, for weather download a couple of the free apps BBC weather and the Met office.

For off-grid, a bare minimum, 100w solar panel, a MPPT solar controller and 1-200ah of batteries, but we have less than that as we use very little just charging tablets and phones no TV etc, if taking a whole tribe with you, you might need more for off-grid, but it is mostly a DIY job, if unsure do the fit and let a pro do the connect up, but if you can wire a plug then you are one wire less.

been beautiful first thing.....now getting a bit overcast...looks like we may get some rain????
dont forget the sister site where you can see where the meets are being held

you will get lots of good advice on here...happy camping

'Scuse me, I am a bit of a newbie as well, what is the sister site where we can see meets? I am itching to get away.

In response to the original poster's request for help, he/she may not know that the most difficult thing about off-site camping in the UK is finding a water supply. Once you have a solar panel, regulator and a decent leisure battery you probably don't need site electricity.
In the UK toilets are easy, you can empty your cassette if you are using green biodegradable fluid, in any convenient convenience. But getting water is more difficult, even if you have a long hose you may find the public bogs have strange taps that are difficult to attach a hose to, and often where you can't get your camper anywhere nearer.
Another piece of advice, in case Renandgnomi don't know it, is that all over France, Germany, ?Spain ?Italy there are places for motorhomes to stay overnight called in France Aires, or in Germany Stellplatz. These are most often free of charge and are dedicated motorhome overnight parking places. Virtually every town in France has one. As you enter a town, even a small one, you will probably see a roadside sign which is a white square with an outline picture of a motorhome and a water tank underneath it. There will be arrows directing you which way to go. Some of them charge a euro to fill up with water, some charge another euro to empty your cassette in the dedicated dump drain. Some are free - we have even had dedicated pitches with hedges around, free water, free electric, free cassette drain and even free TV aerial point.

Hi and welcome from Glengormley Co Antrim, wilding is easy with good batts and solar, gen rule is 1 watt par with 1 amp battery, so if you have 2 batts with 200ah then 1/2 panels at 200w is about right, a good mppt control unit is a must, there are a few good makes on the market, expect to pay from £80 to just over a £100, i like the votronic 250 as it has a one amp blrrd to the starter battery.
WE have a second site Motorhome builder but many like wildbus is on here to help.

Hello from Northamptonshire. So you "want" to take the small humans on holiday? Yep, you're mad enough to be on here!
