Hi all - Me and the family usually opt for self-catering accommo' for our holidays but this year we want to try out the camping experience. To ease us in gently we won't be wild camping but looking to stay at a campsite somewhere in the St Ives, Cornwall area.

We have a small campervan which we will be using along with a 4-man tent to be used next to the van. We'll be wanting to travel around in the van some days leaving our tent up at the site. Is our pitch reserved for us or are we going to return one afternoon to find someone else parked up there?

Hi there welcome.when we have been on a site in the van you are given a pitch number and it is yours till you leave at the end of your stay so the pitch is yours.

hi gdog-and welcome i doubt you will regret it.We got fed off with crap holidays and being ripped off by travel agents on hit and miss holidays abroad,so we opted to buy a motorhome, now rather in the future when full-timing,so we can enjoy cheap holidays and weekends away. Its a rewarding and learning experiance and starting off on a camp site is not such a bad thing to start off with.As you learn the ropes you can go wilding near your home and then after a while go further afield into france and beyond. And a damn lot cheaper than getting ripped off by thomas cook and kin. This sites a good one so anything your not sure about just ask away!!:)

Newbie ..

We are ll experienced campers - have had a small caravan, then changed to tents when my girls were small, then bought our first camper van and have had 4 VW's since..... now have a type 4. We have an awnign we use when on a campsite. What we find useful is to pop a windbreak up the side of the space where you need to park the van. This is a good guideline for reversing or driving the van directly into the space you need to keep. Another trick we sometimes use is to peg down a rope alongside where your wheels would be positioned. This is really good if you want to get back into the level pitch. The worst experience we had was a bak holiday at a British Holidays site in Tenby. We arrived early and found a nice corner pitch .. allocated! We went out for a walk and when we got back the van had been completely boxed in by other tents... when we complained we were told thats what we could expect at a bank holiday.... We were not cruel enough to flatten any tents but have NEVer been back to the site again...
:p

If you are driving off site for the day, just leave something on your pitch. A bucket or a ground sheet weighted down. You can make up a little sign with your reg no. on and stick it in the ground.
