It was decided to spend New Years Eve at CR Holme Moss (A6024) (Kirklees).
We arrived with our van about mid afternoon at the car park and immediately were surrounded by 'low' cloud, this was unfortunate because the whole idea of parking so high up was in order to look out over the valley below and watch the fireworks at midnight.
JohnT and his good lady Tracey turned up later on in the afternoon in their part converted Vauxhall 'van and we settled down in the hope that the cloud would clear, but instead the wind picked up and it was decided we would stay put and see the night through. The wind turned to gale force making it difficult to transfer JTs drinks and munchies from van to van, the wind so strong that it was unwise to go for our intended bimble too.
At the stroke of midnight the cloud seemed to clear occaisionally the wind blew stronger, but the fireworks were to be seen in the valley below (result). We saw the new year in without us setting off our planned fireworks and paper hot air ballons, but managed an odd drink or two to celebrate the new year arrival.
All night the wind rocked the van, even though I had wound down the stabilising legs, and come the morning the wind was still fierce but we had a clear view, thankfully.
One of the funniest things I have seen for a long time happened then between our vans when Tracey opened their van side window and attempted to pass out a bacon sarnie on a plate to John.
The sandwich shot off as if grabbed by an invisible force leaving 'poor' Tracey just gawking at the empty plate in her hand :lol-053: It was one of those times when you really would have loved to have had a camera on the action!!!:lol-049: Overall, a good evening out finishing with a laugh at breakfast.
Thanks John and Tracey.
