Thanks to Canalsman for the new POI. Downloaded it today and installed to google earth. Just been checking it out and gutted to find a few spots I had intended to try appear no longer to be useable - Monsal Head and one near Swannage.

I deleted the previous POI Did I do the right thing or was the new file ADDITIONAL to the old one?

ALso noticed the new file includes "Trackpoints" and "Paths". Can't quite figure what these are about. Can anyone help on these issues please?

Many thanks,
Martin.

Hi Martin

The files are issued as a complete replacement for the previous (or any earlier) version of the data.

That is why some places will disappear - due to their removal because they've been advised as no longer suitable or available. Monsal Head is a classic case where it has recently been confirmed that overnighting in vehicles is not permitted.

Of course many more are added - about 400 in total this time pushing the total to close on 2,000.

Due to an error this time, two tracks were published in the Google Earth data, when only one should have appeared.

The one that shouldn't be there is for a walk near where I live - oops!

The other track that should be there shows the route of the Leacainn Forest Trail.

This joins the OR points that mark the western and eastern ends of this trail. The trail is apparently a brilliant drive for motorhomes, if taken slowly, with lots of scope for wilding.

I hope this clears things up.

Regards

Chris

Many thanks!

Thank you Chris. Shame about Monsal Head. I was looking forward to that one. At least now I know I didn't delete some vital information.

Thanks again for a brilliant piece of work. We are all indebted to you.

Happy WildCamping!

Martin.

While the Monsal Head one may have gone I sent Canalsman a list of places along Longstone Edge (turn by the hotel, continue through Little Longstone, then on the 90 degree bend to the right follow the tiny signpost to Lonstone Edge. Some good spots up there, a virtually empty road (my dog was out and off his lead up there all the time) and beautiful views. Literally only 10 minutes, if that, from Monsal Head and if you're a walker you'll be in paradise. How far do you want to walk?

Hope this helps - hopefully it will mean you can still do your planned trip just staying in a slightly different place.
