Just been looking on the Renault website at the new MASTER VAN says it is going to be available in front & rear wheel drive options. The rear wheel version being up to 4.5t  at least something with a decent payload.

Pleased with my current Master, intend to change it next year so I will see whats available on the Master chassis.

I looked at a Renault Mascot which is rwd but basically a master van but longer, it was too high off the gound to consider as a conversion, hope the new one is a bit lower for you

Do not buy anything new at the moment!

The chances are that when you reverse, the gearbox, clutch, flywheel and exhaust will either break, burn or disintegrate. The back axle will fall off, the windscreen will fall out, the gas bottles will explode and the radio will self destruct.

Look on the bright side though. The wife will leave you because of your foul mood as life falls apart around you. :D

You must have missed the make it was RENAULT not Fiat  Personally I would never buy a brand new model until it has a bit of a track record. Prefer to get ones coming to the end of their run as they have all the bugs ironed out of them :D

Seriously:
I have had 3 Ducatos 1 Trafic & 2 Masters, the only bad one I had was the W reg Renault Master van.
It was quite low mileage & was in reasonable condition when I bought it, previously leased by the RAF from Lex as some sort of transport as it had seats in the back. For some reason nearly everytime I worked on the van I would get hurt, the first day I nearly chopped my fingers off adjusting the seat  . We had numerous problems with it & was glad to see the back of it. There seems to be bad 'uns' about no matter what make but I reckon somebody had cursed this van. Just after we bought it the world economy started to crash (coincidence or what ) we had a year of bad luck. It seemed when I wasn't fixing the thing I was in hospital with some mysterious illness, we think it was probably the worst year of our lives.

To be fair to Renault, the last 2 years with my old bus was trouble free. Sold the van with 89000 miles on it (self build project, was high miles when purchased) and it never missed a beat. Have 2004 Fiat now as far too much bad press with the new one (plus got cracking deal lol). Certainly does look nice mind, but not for a while yet ;-).

I have had both fiat and Master and I think the Master a superior vehicle, however I too would wait a good 12-18 months before getting one.
Looka a smasher though, compared to Pug the Ducato.

I see they are going to a 2.3 litre engine with the same BHP as the current 2.5, but somebody on another forum reckoned that they weren't making an automatic version :mad: I really love the Quickshift 6, never been a fan of automatics before but this really makes it a joy to drive. Good fuel range, mine does almost 600 miles the new one is supposed to do 900 miles but that is a van version. They also give oil change interval extended to every 40,000km or two years

Renault Masters have always had a RWD model, usually as a pick up or Luton, you dont see many in this country. They are tough vans like the Mascot but you will lose that brill low rear floor.
