Anyone had their cushions replaced/recovered? Our van is 12 years old now and the cushions are looking tired and fraying a bit where the backs of your knees meet the edges. We have had quotes in the past and have been putting it off but think we will have to bite the bullet and go fot it sometime this year. We currently have sprung cushions which make up the bed and previously have been told that the whole lot would be replaced with foam.
Any thoughts?
We are off to the show at Shepton Mallet next weekend to see what is available these days. (We have family down in Somerset so will be killing 2 birds with one stone;))
Cheers

we found a roll of good quality cloth at a car boot sale for a tenner, so i dusted of the sewing machine an recovered our cushions, new curtains, and also new panels in the cab doors, never done anything like it before but i have had loads of compliments from others that see it. dont know how much it would have been to have them done by the trade with a little time spent i am shure any one can make a decent job if you try. will try to post some pics later will have to find charger for camera .

I am quite lucky in the recovering stakes .

thats good you will have no probs if you ever need any work in yours. when i did mine i just unpicked the old covers, and used them as templates. then sewed them alltogether  works a treat exept when you sew some of the pannels inside out ha ha, dident do the bed over the cab as i have a temper mattres we dont use so gona cut that to size an use that, will be exelent and comfy when i finish it .

my wife re covered all the cushions and remade curtains for our last van made a world of difference got a cheap 'roll end' from dunelm :D

makes all the diference, and when you d.i.y you get a sense of acheavement .also look at the cash you save they may not be 100%perfect as a professional job. but ours are quite acceptable and tidy. i also went to b&q and got some laminate type floor, and put that in also 2 thirds of the way down the floor made a lot of differance to the interior.

just a bit of effort and you can save a fortune i hate to think what a pro would charge

Christine reckons about £300 for new cushion covers and removable curtains + a spare set of curtains for our van .

Its a good job I can pay in kind :D:D

Reupholsering van seating

Hiya everyone We have a new van but my husband who is a retired upholsterer has made loose covers for our seating as we have dogs. He just made some box cushion covers from some fabric we bought on Ebay. They keep the original ones clean and can be easily removed for careful washing. A motorhoming friend of ours had his seats recovered from a company in Derbyshire who advertises in the Motorhome magazines. They made a very good job of them but the price was quite expensive over £600. Ours were less than £50. Jen

Nice pics mandrake and jenspen.
I have a sewing machine and used to make all my own clothes as a teenager ( I am a woman :)) My concern is that the cushions are large and sprung, they are starting to sag a bit so they do need replacing really, like getting a new suite;):p. Just wondered if anyone had actually had the whole lot replaced. Our MH was handbuilt in Poole and the quality of the interior is excellent, real wood doors, velvet curtains but sprung mattresses do go in time:(.We do turn them over when used for sleeping so to get an even spread so to speak;).
Thanks for the replies

you can buy new fire resistant foam, ether have it cut to size or cut it yourself then cover with cloth. i am going to make a new mattres for the over bed out of the unused tempure mattres we have

I recovered my old vw cushions myself and was well impressed with the result:rolleyes:,however I struggled with the piping around the edges.
Maybe one of our upholstorers can advise on the easiest way to do this {Iused the internal, rope type piping).

Regards..Lenny
