New Motorhome habitation check, when to get it done.

I agree with many others here. Habitation checks are complete rip offs.

The only thing really worth checking is the gas and electrics. But they all will have a long check list which concentrates on whether little bits of trim or decals are missing or in good condition!

Like extended insurances, habitation checks are designed to separate people from their money as efficiently as possible.

Yes they are a rip off but as said by many your hands are tied if you have a new motorhome and wish to keep the warranty.
No different to a modern car warranty, no greasing like in the good old days, oil and filter change, visual check of brakes, suspension etc then plug onto a terminal or whatever they are called. That will be £200/£300 pound please.
IMHO no one in their right mind would buy a new motorhome and not have the annual hab service carried out to keep the warranty valid. I spent a small fortune on my motorhome and will not quibble about paying £140.00 a year for peace of mind regarding water ingress etc.
To many horror stories especially about coach built motorhomes to not have the hab service done.

Hab service

I am on my third new van and the habitation service has never identified anything and I'm not convinced they any checked everything thoroughly. Turning on the gas or plugging into electric and checking the water heats up is not what I would call a service.

The final straw was for this one at year 3 when the tester told me that they could not test for damp because it's a van conversion (autocruise on Peugeot). When I looked he was right. The roof is all lined out in a plastic/pvc material, not the usual wood panel that will absorb water.

All the walls are insulated, battoned and the boarded. The boarding covered by material.

As a result, not bothered taking it in again. I will if I suspect anything not working properly and may be a hazard.

Also the Sheffield Peugeot dealer cannot accommodate Peugoet Boxer vans in its North Sheffield dealership workshop so sub-contracts servicing out. But they sell them on the forecourt. Work that one out.
