New Member, need advice on Swiss Camping!

Hi guys,

I am a new member here but have browsed in days and months gone by!

I am in Switzerland at the moment, outside the McDonalds in Montreux, and am looking for somewhere ideally free to camp as the campsites here are extortionately priced! I have tried to look up the Stellplätze in Switzerland but to no avail.

Please can someone give me a little help on finding one in the area? I will be heading out towards Martigny in the morning, then onto Chamonix.

Cheers, Paul. :)

Montreux

Just checked on campingcar-infos and there's a couple of places in Montreux.. the addresses are Rue du Torrent 1820 Montreux near the lake, the other one I think is a campsite..Camping les horizons bleu Quai de correspondences Ch 1844 Villeneuve. Check out the website CAMPINGCAR-INFOS
Enjoy Chamonix We spent a month in the valley.. loved it.

Sweet, cheers Sue. Turns out that we have had to pay 20CHF for the night in a campsite in Chessel as I couldn't find Wifi before nightfall, and I know from experience that trying to find somewhere to sleep in an unfamiliar location/country at night is a nightmare!

Anyway, I will keep that website handy as it seems pretty good - are those spots the free spots that peoplr have found?

Cheers, Paul.

p.s. I paid an extra 3CHF for Wifi all night so I can check this post again before leaving tomorrow :D

Hi, Mase007.
If you're in the area "Sixt Fer a Cheval" for me rates one of the prettiest places in France. There is an aire close by the village but there are lots of other places for overnighting all around. Near Samoens you have the col d plane Joux at 1700 mts the views of Mont Blanc are stunning especially at sunset, but watch out for the weather.
Bonne route.

Thanks for the advice Nolly, will bear that in mind if we are headed that way :)

P.s can anyone give me any tips on finding free spots to camp (We have a Yellow/Orange VW Camper so it is pretty conspicuous whichever way you look at it!) Just looking for some cool spots to pitch up, maybe with a nice sunset/rise that is free, that way we can extend our trip (open ended tour of Europe until the money runs out!)

Cheers again, Paul.

Just had another look at that site and it looks as though it's put together by volunteers and also information given by forum members.. a bit like this one.

You could do worse than download their free POI's to your sat nav if you're using one.

Happy travelling, Sue :)

Take a peek at our website - some of our POI files may help.
Switzerland its okay to stay overnight anywhere that it doesn't specifically exlude it - so you shouldn't have any issues.
Some campsites have "aire machines" outside so you pay a small fee for water/waste.
If you want to use campsites, remember ACSI is probably valid from now...

Currently wildcamping in Denmark - nice marina, free water/waste and wifi :)

Hi Mase007.
We will be in the Jura as from tomorrow for a week, if you like we could meet up. Would be only too pleased to be of some assistance.:)
Bonne route Nolly.
