Hi all,

I'm looking for a new leisure battery, does anyone know where the best deals are or any local dealers to Doncaster ?

Cheers, Simon.

Ebay

Got an excellent deal off ebay, 180 amp hour for around £100 delivered to my door, saved fetching and carrying!

Get Varta truck batteries.

All the 'expert' advice is buy the cheapest.

I bought my van 2nd hand 2 1/3 years ago, a Feb 2004 Burstner, and it came with 2 Varta leisure batteries, they are still doing the bizz.

Kinda says it all Methinks.;)

Bawtry caravans did have some on special offer, but i couldnt tell you the make. Wandahome might be worth a try too up at Ferrybridge.

And IH motorhomes (manufacturers and spares) at Knottingly. Very knowlegegable people. Workshop manager is a long term motorhome owner.

varta car batteries, Vehicle Parts Accessories, Wholesale Job Lots, Consumer Electronics items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

Here page full of them. If an advert says it's a leisure battery and it will also start a car it is a car battery. There is no difference it can be called a super dooper leisure battery if they want to but it's a car battery.
Don't be fooled by adverts, you may get a larger ah battery that is for a lorry or some other large vehicle cheaper than a so called leisure battery.
Going to a motorhome dealer will also add a premium.

i use a 95ah battery that i had from brand new for my 2.5 diesel van and use that as my leisure batt. no probs 3yrs old now,and i can run flat !not like these so-called leisure batts. which they say do not run more than 50% down in fear of damage. i paid a tenner for it from a breakers.:)

Better not to let them run flat but wate of money buying these so called leisure battery's - they can be double the price!
If using more than one use same size and same brand.

2x batterie

excuse my thickness but if i use 2 batteries do i just strap the +'s and -'s together and then put the main leads to just one of them?

Thanks

Andy

Connect them in parallel, + connects to + and - connects to - as shown below

If you connect them in series + to - then you would have a 24v battery :(

Found these pics in a rather useful resource

Excite the charging

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have another question. We have a very flat (3.07v left in it) leisure battery after standing for 5 weeks. If i made a lead with cig lighter plug on one end and croc clips on the other could i use that to start charging the battery as when it is this low the alternator won't charge it? And whilst this is connected can i run the engine or will it cock the split chatrger up?

cheers

Andy

Hi drewdt3,

It does not sound good at so low a voltage. I have just bought a cheapie charger from Lidl which has a setting for `pulse` charging. This setting is supposed to bring batteries back from the dead. Whether it works or not I do not know.

From my efforts with crap batteries years ago, I think you are donald ducked (to use a technical term).

If I was in your position and I had a spare battery, I would link them together in Parallel after charging up the 2nd battery fully. Leave them a while and then try charging them both up. I do not know if it will work but its worth a try.

Quite often, when a battery has been discharged that low, it is finished. Give it a try, you never know.

That has probably frozen /damaged with such a low voltage shown.I dought it will revive even with an intelligent charger and certainly not with the alternator.
You may explode the battery or damage the alternator if you try you method.
Get down to the scrap yard with your multimeter and get the biggest/best charged battery for a few £.
