Hello All. New Old Fella here wishing to restart my camping days again without the expences of pulling a caravan or mobile home
the size of a block of Flats. Was thinking of something small Bedford Rascal size back end converted with bed and basic cooking hob
etc. Under a 1000cc would save on fuel, Tax and Insurance. What are the downsides on a rig that size if any.
Also I would like some comments and advice on following my interest of visiting the D-Day Beaches in Normandy. I have had the odd
day on previous holidays seeing different parts but with the Family you dont spend the time you would like by yourself. Can I find on
this website any reference to Wild Camp Sites in the Normandy area, maybe somebody out there has wandered the same locations
and can give me some assistance. I am not very mobile these days needing a stick to totter around on so another point is parking
reasonably close to places of interest. I dont want to just sit and think about this until I fade away, so kickstart me with some advice.

Just got rid of a Bedford Bambi slow! expect to get a max of about 50/55mph from it enough room in the back for 1 or 2 but the driving compartment is cramped. Most will have been welded/full of damp these days. As for MPG expect around 25-30 for a bambi etc normally around 35-40MPG for the little vans.

As for insurance etc the only thing thats cheaper is the road tax and maybe ferry prices due to it's size. If I where you I'd wait until the end of the summer and pick up something else bound to be loads then normally is. Put it this way I've now got a self build ex ambulance for a motorhome now 2.5Tdi same MPG can sit comfortably in traffic at 70mph+ almost the same to insure. And the locks were easy to pop. Think you'd be better with a panel van like a transit/talbot etc. But if you really want one theres a rascal forum have a look on there the bambi owners site is a bit anal by all acct.

Welcome youngster, I took my American brother in law ( his Dad was a surgeon who went in with the troops) around the beaches a few years ago. We collected information from the Portsmouth D Day museum & also visited several museums in Normandy, link below.
