Just read this on another group and one to add to the group map.

Gairloch Harbour now has a free facility for touring campervans and motorhomes to dispose of chemical toilet cassette waste safely and cleanly. It's been put in by a local community Covid response group with the support of Gairloch Community Council and North Highland Initiative.

There is an action group called Campaign for real Aires which I’m sure a lot of you are members of. There are often posts on their Facebook page of new facilities opening up in the UK for motorhomes to use but not an easy to use map like we have here. Is someone here collating this information and I’ve missed the post about it or is it something for us to keep an eye on and add when we see new facilities?

Its good to see that in some small way advances in basic facilities are being made. It’s critical that we as a country put some investment into such facilities. I notice that this facility at Gairloch is being offered free, but if an honesty or contribution box is made available I would definitely make a donation. Right now due to Covid the demand for such facilities is growing exponentially. When Covid is history many who may never have considered owning a Moho may have been lured by the freedom it offers. With such growing numbers it becomes even more important that attitudes nationwide has to change. The alternative is greater friction between our community and those out with our community, and that surely is not the way forward. Well done to the Gairloch local community.

Absolutely Molly, and it's much needed good PR for us also.

That can work the other way though Bill as the recent report from Glencoe shows.

Having said that as this is a free facility and there would be no obligation to pay it is slightly different. However, I would hate to see any future reports of how little was ever put into contributions as that would be very bad PR.

I can only speak for myself. I have only used the facilities on Arran and have always put £5 in the box before leaving.
But sadly I agree your point is a possibility Rob.

I recently stayed at Claeverlock and happened to be parked right by the donations box. It was good to see that every van there that night donated.

Very good to hear that Bill. Hopefully Glencoe was mainly people misunderstanding the conditions of use which I suppose could be understandable if it was a large amount of foreign motorhomes used to free aires and stopovers.

We make a donation online, easier if you don't have any cash. This is a good location for overnight with good walks. Also good facilities

And how long would it be in this day and age til some “acrobat” breaks the honesty box open to steal the money I wonder?
