Afternoon all,
I’m currently using a nighthawk m1 in the van, I thinking of upgrading.
Could anyone tell me what would be a decent upgrade to it without breaking the bank, I figured I could sell it for around £100 then put a bit to that for an upgrade, probably secondhand so as to get more for my money.
Thanks
D

I used the Netgear M2 for about a year before having a 5G system installed in the new van. But even without an antenna it worked brilliantly. I would tend to agree with mothership, unless you are having issues or wish to connect to 5G other than upgrading within Netgear I would stick with what you have. If you want to improve reception, possibly instead purchase a roof antenna, or have one installed, other than that stick with what you have.

Decent Omni Directional on the van like we have and forget about it.....streaming Reds (Liverpool) games in the Arctic Circle!!!...would never change the Nighthawk

Thanks all, I agree it is a great bit of kit, I have an antenna on the roof also.
I would like to upgrade to 5g that is the only reason for wanting to upgrade

Why the interest in 5G?

I have disabled 5G on my phone because in the UK at least coverage is so patchy.

In my view you get more consistent performance using 4G and even then it's mediocre. 5G is worse.

In Europe, I'm in Norway at present, 4G coverage is way better than in the UK and even in very remote parts there is adequate coverage. No need to use 5G here either.

We recently returned from 5 weeks France and Spain, the nighthawk was great most places having a signal, however I did notice that most of the time unless we were very rural I had 5g on my phone, I don’t think I’ve ever had that in the uk, especially where we live being rural.
I used the Tiekom sim so ideal for streaming most of the time but there was times where 5g would have been handy

NetGear Nighthawk MR6150

Omni Directional external aerial makes no difference IN MOST AREAS but not all.

Use a 3 mobile sim in the NetGear and phone on EE so can link the laptop or iPad to which ever is best.

I hadn’t looked into the MR6150 yet, so I’ll check that out. Good to know about the aerials too, I’ve been wondering whether upgrading mine would actually make much of a difference, but it sounds like it's pretty location-dependent. Mixing SIMs between devices is a smart idea, I hadn't thought of that before!

I have a Tesco SIM in my router and an EE SIM in the phone.

This is intentional so I have a choice of two networks wherever I may be.

We did have Tesco sims in our phones, but found they didn't work in our Netgear MR6110. I was told that they can tell what type of device they are in and it won't work in a dedicated router. I was told that on some routers it can be overridden in settings, but that went over my head! I now have to get a sim that will work in the EU and a router! The sim that came with it on 02 will not work in the EU! When I asked why, they said none of their sims work in routers in the EU.

Tesco SIM works fine in my Nighthawk...

I did have to make a change to the APN for use in Europe if I recall correctly.

You know that feeling when something goes over your head.... 😂 (y)

That is probably what someone else said and they actually gave settings. But it was Faceache if I remember correctly and I lost the post!

I found that when changing the sim to a different provider your best bet is to reset the router ( the little pin hole near the battery) give it 15 mins and the apn will sort itself out
