Skype is a software program, so yes it will run on a compatible netbook. Yes it will eat your download credits. Skype works by converting your 'voice' into digital data and sending it down the internet to the person recieving it, It can use a lot of your download credit if that is how you buy your internet access. If you then use the 'picture' capability of skype as well this will also use large amounts of your credit if you are using PAYG.

Also note if you do not have a good fast connection then skype will not work well, you will get delays and breakup if the connection can not cope with the amount of data being sent.

Just a tip, if you're using skype and the receptions crap turn OFF the video, thats what uses the bandwidth.

I love Skype, it has saved me a fortune in calls, especially calling home from abroad.

I noticed a member had a Skype icon come up under their name/avatar on a thread. Anyone know how to do that?

goto settings, then edit profile,
add your skype name

Lorry :drive:

I first used Skype with my net book in Lanzarote earlier this year, free Wi-fi at a bar and in Macdonald's, it worked brilliantly, crystal clear, and only cost 1.4p/min to call UK Landlines, 15p to mobiles. One thing I haven't tried yet is using Skype with my Orange mobile broadband, I've been told some mobile broadband providers don't let you use Skype, they want you to use their more expensive mobile phone services.

Orange Mobile Broadband block Skype.

I use the 3 network and also Giffgaff which is based on the O2 network and both work fine with Skype although 3 network seems to have a bit better coverage.

Cheers
