Well it must always be a gamble heading up here in January, but it’s glorious blue skies and sun. Ok, it’s rather nippy, we’re wobbling about in 50 mph wind down here at Lochinver harbour, but the scenery is stupendous. Snowy mountains with streamers of cloud, blue albeit rather choppy seas and lochs. Is anyone else up here, it’s all very quiet?

In passing, is there anything further on these pesky yellow signs festooning all the best stopping places saying ‘no overnight parking’, ‘no motorhomes’
and suchlike?

I am !
Me and the dog presently parked up at Toscaig pier near Applecross.
Internet, phone signal and sat tv so all sorted for tonight. Have to agree about today’s weather, it’s been gorgeous.
May stop another night then heading to Skye visiting friends. Filled up with water at Shieldaig, water was on which surprised me but the gate into the camping field was shut.

Obanboy is up at Applecross well Tosaig Pier to be exact see

Ignore the Yellow Signs they are Illegal and should have been removed last year,

Hi. Great, we’ll need some water at Sheildaig, was the road over the top to Applecross ok?

I came from Shieldaig around the coastal road which was fine.
Spoke to a delivery driver at the pub and he said the road over the pass was ok, I’ll be going that way when I eventually head to Skye.
The worst I’ve encountered was last autumn, it was raining sideways, foggy and blowing a gale. Anything including snow would be better than that.

How was the pass when you went over? Hopefully it’s gritted. Bit nippy today -2 deg, ok on gritted roads but some others are a sheet of ice. We should be in Applecross pm today.

Shiedaig is only open when it is dry and not muddy, so that will be about 1 week end of June. :)

Toscaig

I can see why Applecross is so appreciated among Wildcampers. The sunset over Skye was amazing last night. Now at Toscaig, thanks for the recommendation, decided to stay another day here, it’s not to be missed. But we’ll have to move on soon, crappy weather forecast after the weekend.
