We are off to part of the nc500 in July and wondered if it was woth buying the official nc500 Guide book for £12.95 or should we make do with the £5 fold out map does anyone have the actual guide book and is it worth buying. I was thinking of having a good look through it before we go as dont want to miss anything :)

Nc500

Did it last month with just an AA Map and our satnav. We read up on the area first on the internet, to be sure we saw all the things that were important to us. (Lots of info on line).

There are plenty of Tourist Information places en route to pick up more info. I would just look in line before you go, then pick up leaflets etc as you do your trip.

We've not been to the area since the nc500 was conceived, what we have used in past is Scotland tourist guides from the library. There are lots of things going on or off shoots to visit which you might stumble across or are just as likely to drive past without knowing about. I would have thought searching online will get results as well.

We never bothered (but then we avoided lots of the NC500 ) just used a garage road atlas and explored as many small dead end roads ending at the sea as we could .....

and THAT turned some fantastic gems ...spots all to ourself (a couple that already had folks in them so we left them to their bit of solitude and carried on as didnt want to intrude )
