Mystery pipe in engine bay

Been away for 3 months (New Zealand & Australia) and the campervan (2009 Fiat Ducato Adria Twin) is all OK. Apart from the windscreen washer pump, which has stopped working. New one ordered and is on its way.

In removing the pump I noticed this 'pipe' - it's got an open end, hanging down by the washer bottle. It has clips so looks like it should be secured to something. Just wondered what it is and whether it should be connected to something.

Can you follow the pipe back and see what is on the other end?

Only suggestion at the moment is a drain pipe for the scuttle. These usually go straight down form the scuttle and discharge near the tyre.

The drain for the scuttle is much bigger. Did trace the 'pipe' back but it enters a loom with other pipes / cables so difficult to find the origin.

Looks like a vacuum pipe if it was a petrol engine, possibly part of the windscreen washer setup ....... 🤔🤔

Looks like it's got the remains of broken clips on the protective conduit ....
Maybe see IF you can see the other bits of the clips to give you a clue where it originated .

Just put a bike pump on it and look for the hiss. Its a bit long and heat / mark protected ? But them clips look like it's made for ?...

It looks like a vacuum pipe, has the EGR valve been blanked off?
EGR valves have a vacuum tube to control it

Is that not the pipe to the washer spray nozzle which may be connected to the bonnet with the square stickit blocks ?

Try working your washer and see if the water comes out may also solve the problem of the washer motor not working!

My first thought was a washer pipe but that doesn't explain why it has protective conduit on it, it suggests to me that it is routed to somewhere hot which is why I asked about the EGR valve

Thanks to all the Ducato detectives for your contributions to solving this mystery. Most likely answer is it is the EGR vacuum tube.

Scuttle drain is much bigger, so that's not it.

Not sure the windscreen washer would need a vacuum pipe.

Possible vacuum pipe for headlight alignment
To the best of my knowledge the headlight height adjustment works on a motor / rack and pinion arrangement. Some time ago it came off the end and failed the MOT on headlight alignment. The mechanic fixed it in place and and now I keep my fingers away from the adjustment switches!

EGR valve was replaced in September 2022, so possibly the vacuum pipe was not clipped back on

pipe to the washer spray nozzle
These pipes are bigger and are all in place.

See above. There is power to the pump and after removing pump I connected a 12v supply to the pump and it did not run. So it looks like the pump is dead, replacement arriving tomorrow.

I have a Fiat Ducato 2.8 2001 vacuum pipe to the head lights for adjustment

I have a Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD 2001, headlight adjustment on mine is electrical, don't you wish they would make them all the same :ROFLMAO:

You and I have the last and first when they change over that year Terry 🤣🤣🤣
Typical with me, mine is first registered in 2002 so obviously, a 2001 model, the previous van we bought new in Sept 2001, when I had to buy parts it didn't match up with anything so I did a bit of digging, the base vehicle was built in 1998 o_O

A mate has been having the same problem, chasing a fault and has found out his van is several years older than registered and now finding parts have changed within that period.

When i worked in the m trade selling parts many folk found their cars were years older than first reg, my van is the same, first reg 2000 but in fact built in 1997, it after 2000 worked for 4/5 years and was put into storage as folks did not want lib books and were using the tablets to read, then the gov sold many of them of at auctions.

You expect it to be older when a chassis cab is delivered to a coachbuilder or motorhome manufacturer because of the delay in building the finished vehicle but 3 years is way too long, there was a big difference between a 1998 Peugeot Boxer and a 2001 Peugeot Boxer especially in the engine management system and the BHP, in my case the van that I bought should not have been sold, it was the van that Autosleeper were using as a development model, lots of interior changes, not enough strengthening in key areas which resulted in cracks in the interior trim, over 50 faults including 3 very serious ones found in the first three months, received a full refund but still very stressful:eek:
