Hi everyone

Would it be wise to take a near 9m motorhome to Mull ? I am mostly concerned I suppose about driving onto and off of the ferries and grounding out on the fairly long overhang. Anyone with experience of this using a bigger motorhome ?

As I say.. I want to do Mull then upto skye and just really to know the pitfalls before I plan it all. Thanks all.

Hi steve, Ive been to Mull in a 7 metre tag axle Hymer, no problems. Coaches and lorrys go to Mull on the modern ferry from Oban, however having said that I have seen the occasional problems on ferrys everywhere with extreme overhangs. Depending on the state of the tide etc, but the crews are always very helpful. Phone Calmac with your concerns.

Thank you Bob, thats of some help.:)

I will eventualy phone cal mac but wanted to know from people who know first.:D

Mull

You should be ok on the ferries, the crew are very helpful - don't forget to sample the seafood place at the terminal in Iona.
The road down to Iona is pretty narrow but coaches go down there.
There is a good carpark at the ferry terminal, you can leave your MH all day without any worry ( no vehicles allowed on Iona).
You probably shouldn't try to go down to Loch Buie ( on Mull ) but otherwise Mull roads are good. There are plenty of places to camp, particularly on the West side, although the road is a bit scary - pretty narrow with a deep drop.

Ferries are no problem, but be exact over van length when you book with Calmac, they check very carefully and if you "shorten" the van you may well get delayed to a later ferry with more space.
Another "no,no" on Mull is the road to Carsaig

Thanks to all. My confidence is growing.:)

Christine.. I have read much of your Mull account and it's a great read, so thanks for that, very mouth watering.:)

What length of motorhome did you have when you crunched the bottom ?
