Be sure you don't overstay the free 2 hours on Motorway Services [ unless you pay for extra time ] you are clocked by Camera when you arrive and leave, I have met several people lately who have overstayed and had a fine through the post.

these are private contractors
if you don't pay , will they really sue ?

Services fine

My daughter broke down in a service area on the M6 ,starter jammed, called the AA had to wait 2 1/2 hours left after repair and got a bill a coupla days later it had 2 photos on it entry and exit with times printed underneath, after phoning them and sending the AA report they canceled the charge, dont make it right tho. can you imagine this c**p anywhere on the continent just another example of rip off GB.

We got one last year on our way back from Portsmouth, totally kn******d so stopped just south of Brum for a kip,as you are advised to do on the Tiredness kills signs. We must have been really tired as we slept for 4 hours sitting up. The car park was virtually empty. A week later we received a 'bill' for overstaying,so much for road saftey. The invoice has asked for the name of the driver and indicates the charge,we have ignored this rip off and haven't heard any thing since last June!!
Shame really I did want the opportunity to tell them to boil their repective heads!!!!

Careful if you dont pay!

I also got a ticket through the post and completely ignored it, not heard anything since. BUT! be warned... if you return and have not paid your fine they might wheel clamp you for unpaid fines AND at their other service stations too. The place where I got my ticket was Toddington services on the M1 which is run by MOTO... I avoid all MOTOS now until the wheel clamping becomes unlawful.

By the way... when does clamping become unlawful? anyone know?

Don't know how long it will take but the "Protection of Freedoms Bill" is the one which MAY make clamping on private land illegal - but there is a long way to go yet and there may be ammendments which change this aspect completely. Also, the bill contains a section relating to "distress damage feasant" which basically means that it will still be legal for landowners to remove and impound vehicles - although, of course, that could be ammended too! So don't hold your breathe!

I carry an alarm clock always. When I need to stop, I make sure of the time when I pull in, then set my alarm 1 hr 45 mins on. Out in under 2 two hrs (the limit) go to the next stop and do exactly the same. If I cannot sleep, I am relaxing with a bit of shut eye inbetween. I totally agree, it is the only country I know of in the world ( i have travelled a bit) that charges a fee on the Highway. But then, it is the UK.

Just a note. It is illegal to clamp a vehicle displaying a valid Blue badge. Whether it is parked on public or private land. I got clamped once in Torbay and I called the police. they then called the clampers and made them remove the clamp. I willingly gave the police the drivers details but refused to give them to the private company who did the clamping just to be bloody minded.

They are NOT 'fines' they are civil charges & can be disputed for a number of reasons Go Google pepipoo A very good motorists site

Ignore it. I got one from CP PLus. I parked in a disabled bay for 3 minutes and I am a blue badge hodler!!! They just try it on and the internet is littered with stories like this. Especially from this company and their solicitors. Its a scam.

Dont contact them, just ignore it and any threatening letters.

just chuck the letters in the bin dont contact them and they soon go and bother someone else...the fine has to go to the driver not the vehicle owner but they send it to the owner hoping you pay,and they wont clamp you as they have to give a warning period before clamping you..nothing to stop you cutting the clamp lock off and replacing the lock.
