Hello boys & girl’s

Stopped in Barnstable on Monday to have look round the town. Parked in Queens car park
( short stay ) we always over hang a bay so we have to purchase two tickets. DO NOT do this in Barnstable
YOU WILL get a ticket, we have appealed but they will not move on this.

SO MOTORHOMES ARE NOT WELCOME IN BARNSTABLE

That's truly unfair!

If they insist on fining you then it's another nail in the motorhomers coffin & in their revenue when none of us stop off for a bite to eat in their cafes & restaurants!!
Could you perhaps take the matter up with your MP?

Phill

Thanks Phill
My sentiments exactly, bit over the top for the MP route just hit them where it hurts
Also sent e mail to local paper and councillors

If they didn't state that motorhomes that do not fit in a car bay must not park (or that you must only park entirely within a single bay), I suspect that you might have grounds for appeal since you purchased a ticket for each bay used. However, on their website North Devon Council seem to say that you must park in one of their lorry parks (see Lorries, coaches and motorhomes). Good luck with the appeal, Geoff

How would you define fitting in a bay ?dose the footprint of your tyres have to be within the lines or the whole tyre ,or touching the lines , or any part of the vehicle above the lines .??

It seems a grey area, i've heard of people fined for bodywork overhanging, but in areas like south Hams the Traffic Wardens have told me it's ok if all wheels are inside lines.

Now I know that there is a smart lawyer somewhere that has had a load of parking convictions overturned but it used to be the complete vehicle had to fit in the designated bay.

All these recent posts about councils not letting motorhomes in carparks its starting to look like we will just have to park on the road and put blue badge up. I do that with the car unless parking bays are closer but was intending to try and keep mh off the road as its harder for others to see around

Does that mean we should all have a blue badge or " I'm all right Jack".

It doesn't mean either!

If I were making it hard for other road users it would not do any favours. Car parks are usually sited close to where people need to go, if you cant park in on you may be okay walking but a lot of folks aren't. I think I was raising a valid point that there are other implications to this pushing mh's out of parking areas

you can use a blue badge even if driving an articulated truck.
many do.
are you disabled?
if you are you can get a badge if not then you cant.
disabled drive trucks and coaches etc .
but have trouble walking . some are in wheel chairs but still drive large vehicles .

Hi, don't go running Barnstaple down for having no m/h parking because it is one of the few towns that does cater for us. There is a multi purpose 'car' park at EX31 2AS marked as Barnstaple van park. On the day we were there, a Sunday, it was free whereas the town centre parks have a charge. It is a moderate walk into the centre but there are shops on the way in e.g. Tesco Extra. I think we rang the information bureau to find it. There was plenty of space for any size of vehicle.

We parked in Scarborough at the Sea Life Centre no way could I get in their little boxes. Had a walk round the car park and there was a Ford KA parked in one box and it's wheels were on the white lines on both sides :rolleyes2: .. How do they expect you to park. I just backed in and left about 8 ft sticking out the front of the box. We also asked the wardens in Whitby about parking and all he could say was buy TWO Tickets which would have been more expensive than parking a BUS.

Seems like France and Spain win hands down. Thank you for stopping the night we hoped you enjoyed it.

..
