Motorhomes banned in Walmer

To be fair, surely its time to face the fact that some places aren't suitable for overnight parking. How many of us are really surprised that local residents were pissed about a line of vans constantly parked overnight in full view of their front windows? The annoying part is that while they all choose to park there, with many leaving rubbish etc & emptying tanks down drains, the council chose to ban overnight parking in local carparks, which would provide a workable solution to both sides if it was allowed.

Motor homes can still park there in the day. How much of their view of the sea is lost when it’s dark and they have their curtains shut?
Just another example of nimbyism and the UK’s national pastime of interfering in other people’s lives.

Nobody has a right to a view, that's why councils often block peoples views by allowing planning permission for developments blocking existing views in favour of making money.

Having said that it won't affect me as it's not my idea of wildcamping anyway. I prefer to be away from towns or houses.

Looking at the picture in this article and others most of us would know this is going to eventually end.
There are people campaigning for motorhome stops and they are being trialled.
The world moves forward and yes we are not a advanced as France but not all Frances Aires are beach front.
Well done I say to the Dr maybe he could help find a parking spot he is obviously very good.

Nobody has a right to view, but these people have probably played a premium for the sea view anyway. Personally, I wouldn't park there either, but each to their own I suppose. Just pointing out, we all know this kind of parking is verging on anti social, same as the street campers in Bristol. Why go out of your way to antagonise the same public that we then complain are against us all the time? Why not all take a stand against the council instead, & try to overturn car park bans?
Its only a small island, vastly overpopulated in my opinion, we all need to try to get on with everyone.

My point exactly. This guy is a retired professional who obviously knows where to push for maximum effect.
Surely he would be better working in our favour, rather than against us. If these type of people weren't wound up regularly, maybe he & others like him could be diplomatically persuaded to help in our mission to find more suitable places to park....

I agree with what you say mostly. However, the price he has paid for his view should not come into it.

We and many others lost a view once in favour of a Tesco being built and a new housing estate. Again it didn't really bother me too much, we simply moved house. Paying a premium price does not give you any more rights than less well off people.

Only if you build on the right spot.

Several years back we had a few days in that area using Canterbury P&R as a base and called in there to have a bite to eat at lunch time.

Within a minute or so whilst i was outside cleaning the windscreen a local came up and started giving me grief about staying there

I tried expalining that we was only having soemthing to eat but he wasn`t having it and kept ranting at me so i told him to politely go away or words to that effect.

We had our meal then moved on, there was probably 3 or 4 other motorhomes there spread out over quite a distance.

On the way back to Canterbury P&R i decided to call in and have a look to see what all the fuss was about.

It would be about 7pm and it was packed solid, just like the photo in the link so in a way i can understand why he was getting so annoyed.

Would you risk it and have some clown come and graffiti the van or even worse o_O
It's not a place I would choose to park up overnight ban or not, just pointing out that the sign is only for 'motor caravans'.

Cant really blame parking bans on the minority - if there is a nice place motorhomes will congregate and even if it is left cleaner than when they arrived - people will still complain about the amount of motorhomes parked up - irrespective of whether they have only gone for a day or longer

Me neither but an awful lot of people do stay in places like that simply because it`s free.

There`s an aire type stop-over in Lytham St. Annes not far from me that costs approx £5 per night to stay.

Nice large marked bays well away from the road and right by the prom and beach but lots and lots will stay out on the road, because it`s free.

Similarly Fleetwood has the same set up and it happens there as well, more out on the road than in the official overnight parking, because it`s free.

As you say Mr W because it is free.
No excuse IMO.
Surely even full-timers can pay that. (£5)
Yes there may be some full-timers who have been "forced to live in MoHo" because of lack of funds..
Some sympathy for them ! Also the council need to provide for rubbish and waste disposal
The Walmer residents have a view (or not it seems !) but many others live in house with "white van man" parked a lot OR an unpleasant view of factories etc etc.
Inevitably the two sided coin !
Because te complainant is educated and articulate he has got his way !
As with most things in UK lack of space is the fundamental problem
