Hi All,

New to this site, but would like your views on motor home or caravan.

Have had the same caravan for 17 years and had some great family holls in it. But times change, and have had the urge to go Motor Home. Have chosen the Auto Trail Cheyenne 635se. We have looked at many, but this is the one we both really like. Only downside we can see is not much outside storage. Slightly small over cab bed, but can make another bed up and sleep separate, depending on if we have argued.....:eek:

Will be test driving it tomorrow........

It would be just for the wife me and the dog, dont want to stay in the same place for to long and really fancy the "wild thing"

How have others found the change.

Cheers

i use a mini artic convertion . like a 5th wheel caravan but use a mitsubishi cater as a tow vehicle. drive on a car licence fits all my needs .m,bikes in back . incredible off road capabilities but do get stuck sometimes. 20ft trailer ,total length 30ft.

We had a 25ft caravan, it was very good but we just didnt use it much after 3 years so we sold it.
I then bought a 1972 Bedford CF camper
thattoheathmountainrescue
This was used for Lads and Dads camping trips and classic car shows
Then I sold it as a newer Fiat Ducato camper came along at a good price, its used for days on the beach and the Lads & Dads camping and we love it, small and easy to park.
Cars and campers are totally different and suitable for different uses, you tailor the trips to the vehicle you have, if I had to choose its a camper for me 4 berth but as small as possible for access and parking

Hi Kneedown, :D

I would think that would be ideal for just you two’s and you’re best mate.

What sort of budget do you have?

Just re read your post.
Why do you need a lot of storage> I feel we all take too much stuff with us, me included, buying the small camper showed me just how little you need

all depends if he wants to go long term in winter to the sun . then you need quite abi of storage .clothes, tools, books ,beer, wine, etc . think of all the things thats cheap here to take with you. then buy everything thats cheaper while you are away to bring home. if wilding extra water etc. gas bottles it goes on. have fun get a 5er .
cheers alan

Hi there we had a caravan for 5-6years
and I never went to far with it because I didn't like to tow it on motorways ,

Hi I am just the same mate, I have been a caravaner for 15 years and I have just bought a small motorhome as the wife gets very jumpy towing on the motorways. I am giving the storage alot of thought as you loose alot with not having the car as well but I know I always take to much kit any way. My motorhme is 18ft long, my idea is less storage but the benifits I hope will be it will get me into places a big one cant and that includes supermarkets. Will let you know if that works as just off to Scotland soon.
Good luck, Stan

Both my sister and myself, changed over from caravans to motorhomes late last year (both MH's funded by our late father-thankyou Dad). I thought it would "own it for a few years" then go back to caravaning as caravaning appeared to have so many pluses.

Now 6 months on........

Just love it! woudln't go back to caravaning if you paid me or my sister, so much more get and go about it. Non of the setting up, dragging all the stuff stored on the floor so it tow rights etc. Just stop, maybe level it up? put on the handbrake, plug in the power (if you are on a site) and put the kettle on. Going away for the night - something we wouldn't do in the caravan is so simple.

As for storage...look at every item you have and ask yourself do you really need it? We found we need to much less "stuff" with us in the MH.

Go buy it-you'll love it!

We had a caravan for a few years but as it had to go in storage it was more hassle than it was worth when we wanted to go away so never used it. We then went back to a tent, thinking as we have it to hand we would use it. NO and we ended up staying in apartments or static vans, so last year we decided to get a motorhome. We've done more trips then we ever did in the caravan, it's the best thing we ever did.

You`ll have no problem anywhere in Scotland, especially the single track roads, with that size of Motorhome Stan. Have a great trip, which I`m sure you will.

what a great topic _ weve been caravaners and then we got into motorhomes,

You can park it anywhere like a car i.e on the street - dont need storage like we did for a caravan.

You do carry less gear in the end but them big fiamma boxes are great,

You dont have to book sites - because you can be self sufficient! can be an adventure!

Our main downfall we have found is lack of room for living, Most 6 berth campers wont be as roomy as a big caravan.

But you cant have everythig!

Well.......................

The deed has been done, put the deposit down yesterday. :):):D

Not 100% convinced in my mind, (which is why I am posting this at 03.51 in the morning, cant sleep !!!!!! ) but it's done.

Thanks for all the replies from everyone, seems like most people like thier homes better than vans. Was not going to get her till September, but have managed to get the funds together so it will now be early July.

Maybe we could join in on one of your Wild Jaunts soon.... help us us get sorted out on what to do..... where to go etc......

Cheers
