during the recent storms along by the clifs of moher in co clare a motorhome was blown across the road, hit a low wall & ended up on its side. the driver escaped injury.
it seems there have been other such incidents like vans & other high sided vehicles in the past.

I’m not surprised the only time I was worried in our van was at Mizen head and that was in the summer No way I would have stayed there in a storm. I’m sorry for them but really !!

I couldn't understand why I was getting wet at the Cliffs of Moher on a hot, sunny day. Then I realised that it was sea water being blown up the cliffs (500 feet high) by a reasonably gentle breeze.
Not a place to be in a storm!

Most of us here are old enough to remember the 1987 / 1989 storms in the south east of England. I lived in Basingstoke and was working in Luton one day a month. On the way home one evening down the M1, round the M25 and down the M3 I counted 27 lorries turned over. One was hanging precariously over the M25 / M4 bridge, Italian Job coach style. A fair number were proceding along the motorway periodically on two wheels. Blow that for a game of soldiers, I would have pulled into the nearest services and run for cover. Some of the Vauxhall Factory roofs were blown off. (that was where I was working)

I remember the roof of the Leisure Centres squash court leaking that night in the middle of a match as well as all the trees down etc.
My main thought was "That's one hell of a way to say goodbye, Oma" - My grandmother passed that night and she usually had something to say ;)

elled van would never be blow over sideway it got ASR on the sprinter

Isn't ASR the same as Traction Control Jeff?

Not sure it would stop you getting blown over?
ASR (Anti slip regulation) are sensors on each wheel that help to prevent them from slipping, all recent Ducatos have it, my last two Ducatos did..
It will do nothing to stop your motorhome from being blown over.
Why Jeff reckons it would eludes me.

ASR = Acceleration Slip Regulation, in other words, traction control. :)

Jeff must be getting it confused with cross wind assist, which wouldn't stop you blowing over either, you'll just blow over in a straight line.

Thankfully my van had all this nonsense removed. :)

I'll look it up again lads. it is all new to me,. Anti Side Roll my arse.. It has abs also, new fanglged stuff Hay. Lol.

Vans like me, bottom heavy ! that should stopped it being blown over.

Your blowing me over with your Luddite attitude Mark. :)

I am a total sucker for all the weird gimmicks, a salesmen’s dream, and I am happy in my wee cabin, surrounded with so many gimmicks I don’t know what to do with them. Lane assist, collision prevention assist, traffic sign recognition, ASR, cross wind assist, auto headlights, hill hold assist, auto wipers, and when I am to old to drive I will buy one that takes me there while I am having a nap in the back, and wakes me up when it’s arrived, with a coffee and a wee biscuit. :)

My last work van had most of all these new features, fine if they are there, but I ain't paying extra for them
Was impressed with the auto lights and auto wipers though, even in bright sunshine, if wipers were activated dipped beam came on, very sensible.

Most of the items were options when I got the van I converted, and ASR is deleted when you get full time 4x4 option. They, then rightly assume you know what you are doing. :p:LOL:

That's one thing I like about my latest bike. It's got ABS, but no traction control and no rider modes like previous bikes I have had.

Less to go wrong in my book.
