hi everyone

been trying to get a rival quote for life insurance, Legal and Gen, £17.00 a month, then came the question, do you take part in the following, caving/potholeing, paragliding, absailing, flying privatley for pleasure, motorsports?? "er yes", which one? "motorsports" what kind? "drag racing" how many races a year? "6-8" whats the fastest speed reached in practice or racing? "204mph" we need to pass this to our underwriters, "ok"

called today with revised quote £79.00 a month!!! some of you may already know that i'm in farming, but part of my income is from fittening polo ponies in the spring, they are mental, i've broken more bones riding horses than riding drag bikes, a drag bike goes in a straightline, only one other competitor on track with me, and usually 20 yards behind :-] , the last time I hurt myself at a race meeting was cutting my hand badly whilst in the MH trying to open one of those frey bentos pie tins with a screwdriver!! lucky i didn't mention that or the quote would have gone through the roof!

another tax on having fun? i'm going to buy a big roll of bubble wrap, cover myself in it, and stay indoors for the rest of my life, now give me a revised quote please mr L and G.

friggin sad init...... do you really need to insure your life while drag racing...

I guess if you are confident that you won't die drag racing then don't tell them. So long as you don't die drag racing they aren't to know and if you do they won't pay out.

of course that may constitute frawd in some way

My opinion of insurance companies is not good. I have not had life insurance for many (30) years now, not even mortgage insurance. I decided that I would take the risk, and so far I am quids in :)

The reason is this:- My dad died, I was executor, phoned insurance company and asked for the money. After some toing and froing I got the answer:- " Sorry, we will have to deduct 50% of the payout as your father didn't tell us he was suffering from a notifiable disease." I asked "What disease is that" "Chronic heart disease" they replied. Yes, he died of a heart attack, and yes, he had heart disease, but he didn't know that nor had he been diagnosed. "It is in the terms and conditions etc etc." I was told, and so it was, a long list of things which if they could prove that you had one or more of at the time the insurance was taken out they could keep 50% of the payout.

The moral is, read the small print, they are in it (insurance) to make money and that is exactly what they do, they will wriggle out of a payout if they possibly can. Save the premiums in a high interest rate bond, it is surprising how quickly it mounts up, when you have £1000 or more draw it out and buy gold, hide it somewhere sensible. Wait 20 years and sell it, Yahooooooo!:D

hi aj/biggirafe/hallii

I was amazed when I recieved the call, I should have kept stum, but my brother did that and was killed riding his suzuki, cost us £7000 to bury him.

This whole insurance thing winds me up, I spent the morning in the woods waving a chainsaw around, then splitting axe in hand, tractor in low ratio with a ghost driver, and me walking beside trailer, not another soul in sight, if I followed the letter of the law regading insurance/health and safety, I would get sod all done in the day. Lucky for me they didn't ask any questions re chainsaws, tractors or axes, they would have me behind bars!!

I feel much better now
