Have you got a motorbike rack/towbar attatched to your motorhame? I badly need to asee pics to get some idea of how they are fitted. I have the rack just need to sort a towbar out. I have a P-Boxter Autohomes Wildwind I will attach some pics of the chassis. My unit is only MWB, will adding a towbar, rack and a scooter to the payload be too much for the unit? Please help. :help:

I did have a towbar and m/c rack on a previous 'van, an old Elddis Autocirrus based on the Merc 207D so probably not much help there. The towbar was already fitted when I bought the 'van but I had the rack put on. I also had Air-ride suspension fitted which made a big difference to the 'van's handling both with and without the bike on the back.

What I would say is that I would never have that type of rack again. It just bolted on at the towball fixing plate and to be honest it wasn't stable enough. I was only carrying a little 100cc Yamaha and I never did get it to really sit still. The bike was solid enough on the rack but the rack itself flexed far too much for my liking. Over a speed bump, at dead-slow speed, it could even hit the back of the van with the bike's handlebars. I've since seen far better racks, really solidly fixed to the chassis of the van itself.

As to whether it will be too much for the van, you can really only consult your handbook for the weight figures of the van, the rack and the bike you intend to carry and calculate if it takes you over. You can be fairly sure that it will have some effect on handling and you might want to consider Air-ride. To be honest, in my case, that was the best part of the whole thing!

Since I now ride a Kawasaki GPZ500S, carrying it is out of the question! Sorry if this doesn't help a great deal but maybe it will just flag up some of the issues. Let us know how you get on.

I tried to find a close up of ours but dont seem to have one. Our rack was fitted by Armitage Trailers near Ferrybridge. Its fitted to the chassis and is solid as a rock. A ramp fits on the side of the rack and the bike is on or off in less than a minute with a heavy U shaped bar over the seat which is rachet strapped down to the rack.

If the payload is ok I wouldnt look anywhere else although I think Watlings do something similar

I wanted to see how the have attached the towbar underneath the Van. Is it bloted to the chassis? If there would be any chance of seeing pics I would be greatful.

Thanks for the reply though

Bernie

I will take a picture of my tow bar and post it on here in a few hours time. Note: my MH is quite large, so the picture is basically to give you an idea what it looks like.

Sorry, misread your post. Pictures following with motorbike rack, I don't have a tow bar.
