Just finished grappling with new discs/pads on front of the Ducato...

(Been an advisory for last 2 mots)

18 months/2 years of low usage haven't been kind lol....
Rusty/crusty and just generally nasty...

Emergency purchase of a 14mm Allen key socket and liberal use of works turbo torch to free the loctite on the caliper bolts = shiny new discs/pads for grand total of £80

Fingers crossed for Saturday lol....

Ohhh and if anyone needs a 14mm Allen key socket to do their ducato front brakes...
Shout up

I'm happy to share ;-)

You lucky, mine failed again today, tell me the brakes on the back have a faulty compensator as pressure to low, well its a new one just on, so on will go my home remanufactured one with a bypass internally sorted in my w shop, £18.50 again, last mot cost me £90 with 5 visits until sorted, no rolling roads here to test at moment except my mates which has a car stuck over them weighting for parts.

£80 was for the discs and pads from my local car spares emporium ....

I didn't charge myself for lying in the gutter in the cold fitting them ;-)
Buy yourself a fine malt as payment for your hard work. These things always seem to need to be done when it's cold and damp - at least it wasn't snowing.
Takes me back to the 1970's and it was usually brakes then as well. Not something that you could put off until springtime unfortunately.

I actually feel like I'm linked to the bad weather at times....
Sunshine outside... Nothing breaks/stops working
Rain/cold/snow... Every vehicle I own needs some love.

In fairness I knew the brakes were on borrowed time (motorhome had spent a fair time sat before we owned it)
And the advisories on disc condition was the tipping point.

Did the rears last year (tester commented that the rears nearly pulled the rollers out of the floor on testing) and that it was unusual as these Ducatos very often struggle with rear brake effect.

To be honest the garage I use are ace (very firm BUT very fair)
And know that it'll be me that fixes it AND that if there is an advisory then I'll sort it, rather than wait till it drops off.

I these we bu--ers cause lots of probs on iveco, mine well sorted and a pass now.

I often find it amazing that folks (especially in the landrover world)
Ignore their braking system until it gives problems.... Getting going isn't as much of a problem as stopping when it doesn't function)

A system that you (and your family) rely on for safety full of small delicate pipes and hydraulic components with tiny passages/ports filled with a fluid that absorbs water over time (certainly in older fluids)
And metallic/alloy components that are frequently heated up and cooled...

Lucky they are duel circuit then and should only half fail, that is if both are working, many I see are not.
