I have just had a struggle to get my van through its MOT. Basically the problem was down to poor design of the parking brake. With mine being a tag axle with 4 rear brake discs, they are a bugger to set up and work efficiently.
For anyone in my neck of the woods, Gateshead Council has an MOT testing station suitable for large vehicles. They have no axe to grind because they do not do repairs. Although mine failed, they were sorry to see it fail and bent over backwards to get it retested quickly for me, as they knew I was heading off to Scotland.
I get my mechanical work done just down the road from them at Hoddy`s Recovery. Most of their work is on HGV`s but they also do motorhomes horse boxes, and light commercials. Their rates are not steep and they do a very good job.
I would recommend both places to anyone.
