Mosel/Rhine

Tunnel booked for Wed night so off to Europe for 10 days.

Had thought about a route from Luxembourg down the Mosel to Koblenz, and then up the Rhine and maybe finish off in the Black Forrest.

Has anyone done this at this time of year (end Oct.) and is it a good idea, or would we be better off heading further south.

Also any tips, must see's or other advice on this area much appreciated.

Hi Geoff done it in early July some great vineyards to stop at down Mosel

Mosel - Rhine

Hi Geoff,
No problems around this time of the year. The weather overthere is generally a little drier than the frog countries around the North Sea (microclimate). In the Moselvalley grape picking is on his way now; + 'Weinfeste' . Nice autumn colors all around.
The Mosel- and Rhine valleys are very motorhomefriendly.
Have a look at:

Don't miss the Alsace at the opposite (French) side of the Black Forest.

Have a good trip,
Leo

Hi Geoff;

You'll have a great time, theres a stellplatze in virtually every town/village along the Mosel and quite a few down the Rhein so you'll have no problems finding somewhere to stay.
On the Mosel you should also just catch the end of the Federweißer season (Go easy though, its potent stuff :p ) and keep your eyes peeled for Walnut trees all around as you'll also be in the Wallnuß picking season as well. :)

Have a good one.

Pete

Been on the Mosel a few times but not as late in the year. If you haven't got one buy a Reismobil Bordatlas lists loads of stelplatz sites for stopovers. Didn't find the Rhine as nice as the Mosel.

[no probs finding sites (stelleplatz) on the Mosel, visit Bernkastel Kruez, Cochem on the mosel and only buy your wine from Lid'l and Pennymarkt stores (very cheap) enjoy. !!!

Burgh Eltz is a lovely place to visit .. a typical fairytale castle perched on a hill. We went along the Mosel in June ..Loved it :)
Enjoy your trip,
Sue

Well off we jolly well go.
