Vindiboy's snap shots has given me the urge to get to Morocco. Please feed me information. 1) Do I need to inform my Insurance for the extra cover? 2) Do I need a Visa? 3) Do I need the equivalent of a Vinnigte? 4) Exchange € and £ into their currency in Spain or in Morocco itself? 5) Should I sail from Algecerias or from Tarifa? If there is anything else to add, it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance

hi best try and get cover from uk insurer . some will some wont. but change to one that does much easier and you know what you are getting. saga do it comfort . safeguard . nfu. all can.
no visa 90days stamp in passport but no date they try to trick you into staying longer then fine you. no viggnette just drive through try and meet a experiancedcrosser as the guardians and the police all want bakshish . dont pay. we usually cross to ceuta from algecirios . have done tanger but not the new port. tanger is a night mare. or can be . you need a michelin map idealy bought here or you get ripped off again . . we free camp most places , use guardia parking /camping sometimes .
not going this year . left early this year the day before the riots . why not call up and have a coffee give you lots of advice. my neighbour here is heading off on dec 13 to cross about the 20th to maroc. he is in a man truck. i,m sure you will team up with someone though . you may have my number if not pm me . cheers alan. only up in roche.

Hi Alan, thank you for your offer. Yes, we do live in the same County. I most certainly will pop in for a cuppa☺ Unfortunately, it will be next year in April as I will then be returning from Australia. I did make a day trip from Tarifa as a foot passenger only to scout the area a couple of years back, I agree, it was murder. Have a nice Christmas, where ever you are.

Your Insurance Company will issue you with a Green Card, mine cost £17 for admin they said, COMFORT.You MUST have a piece of GREEN PAPER to enter Morocco ,your Green Card, [ Moroccan rules.] We bought our Ferry ticket in Algerciras Spain, from Juan Carlos,[ I have the CO Ordinates if you want them ] You can stay overnight outside his office if you want or just up the road is a LIDL where 20 --30 Motorhomes overnight waiting for their Ferries, Juan Carlos will give you all the paperwork you need to enter Morocco, 3 copies for each person, 3 copies for your vehicle and one other, you fill out the required details ,all very easy, one copy of your personal entry form is kept by you and one copy of your vehicle form also, the later is very important as it is proof that you imported your vehicle INTO Morocco and if you don't have it you can't bring your vehicle back without paying import duty. Juan Carlos will change your money to DIRAMS if you wan't to and the exchange rate was good when we changed ours 200 Euros is all we changed and we used our Visa Debit card all over Morocco no problem. You are not booked on a timed Ferry you you just turn up and board the next available one, Juan has the timetables.Moroccan Money is /was a closed Currency and was not available from travel agents in the UK when we enquired, as you drive towards Algerciras you will see lots of ticket booths all offering tickets for the Ferries, we called in to get quotes but used Juan on recommendations from others and his WAS the best price for us 250 Euros open return ,it was for ANY size vehicle with or with out trailer, it may be different now .Entry to Morocco through the Border is fun, you can pay a guide to do the running around if you wan't to make it easier, they all want your money so they try and confuse you if you go it alone, we did and it was quite easy but they make you wait, about 5 Euros was the going rate for the guide, I will write more later , I have to go out now . Best Regards Malc.

hi, i also use juan carlos for tickets . his bits of paper werent accepted last winter .we had to fill out the moroccan forms . its not hard . i have old ones from years ago to copy from. the bit ou o have to be carefull is that you alsohave a green card for your m,bikes /scooter etc. and make sure they book them in . also that they give you written reciept on the leaving slipo that you have booked out all that they booked in. they forget to bok things out and try to get you next year. keep all paper work as referance for next time.
morocco is an exciting place . changing very fast these days . think it will be infront of most of europe soon. thriving industry and is taking over from spain as the garden of europe. bewary but have a good time . its one of the wilest countryies we can easily get to in a m,home . get a good camera and on an evening just watch the sunsets . its a drug i,m sure.

Did Morocco 2 yrs ago. Currency needs to be changed in country -£ or € are fine.

Tanger port an absolute nightmare -next time we will go via Ceuta. Campsites cheap but basic as is food.

Watch the entry paperwork as mentioned -I failed to note at Tanger they had only allowed the MH in for 30 days. Fortunately noticed and manged to get it sorted at no cost at Marakesh airport.

Forget the Vic book -imho there is a better one (in French) see Découverte du maroc en camping-car.

The coast gets extremely crowded after Christmas especially with the French!!

The only thing that puts us off returning is the 'hassle' Whenever you stop you seem to be surrounded with people trying to beg and if you ask for help you are likely to led to a carpet salesplace!! Please pm for more info
(apologies for any repition as I have not read the whole thread -currently catching up on emails in Macedonia (country not Greece) -more on that anon!

See our blog for Morocco route and info - though we did go with DD (who were good for us).

1 - yes if you want insurance cover. Safeguard are FoC
2 - No - VOA (Visa on arrival). Getting through immigration is a pain - but fun - just research what you need to do. No real hassle and no bribes reqiored
3 - No
4 - Use standard ATM for cash when you get there. Don't bother in advance.
5 - Personal choice

Cash is a good idea, and I would pay with fuel (was 56ppl in March) and everything with cash. But ATMs aplenty. (big supermarkets etc)

You will be in good hands if you visit ALI BABA GRAND DJALABHA AKA WWALAN he is an intrepid traveller and knows all about Morocco, especially how to loose a dog and find it again after gunfire, he will explain, best wishes Alan Malc.

Lot of Police hand held Radar Traps in Morocco, the Police are poorly paid so are out to make a buck, a friend was caught and asked for 400 Dirams about £40 then, he paid and asked for a receite ,he was given his money back and handed over 10 Dirams £10 , and waved on his way. The roads are pretty bad generally and lots of Donkey Carts, Bicycles and people wandering about so it is hard to speed anyway, but be aware.Kids become a pain in he end, always begging, also if you go in to a shop you are harrased to buy, it's the way of life over there, you get used to it but it can be a pain.

everyone should go once ...whether or not you go again is up to you
personally it's not for me , as the things that I value most are not available , and the boss hates being hassled all the time

but YOU might love it ...and you will never know unless you try

hiya malc. not there this year. but never mind.
you mean blackie .born in tamrha. sh just wanted to go home maybe.
all changed round there now. all that soil on the old free camp was gone last winter we were camping all over the place. had lots of agro from cihed the chief of police but give him loads of grief.
bluming wedding and the gun shots ,interesting glad we saw it . couldnt have been in a better view point.
thought i saw my mates man truck on one of your pics at tagga . none of mine .
have you been since? though it really is changing .new cars trucks m,bikes . everywhere.
already had tx,s from some of the locals wanting things from here. good crowd over there.
the coastis getting covered in tourist places now though . want m,homes on campsites , but we wont go on them. hee hee .
have good travels catch you somewhere. cheers alan.

Hi Malc, the way you describe Morocco, I think I can handle it, as I have been to India many times and they seem to have the same culture. Thanks for the tip anyway.

keep your sense of humour, even when frustrated,be polite to coppers until theyget too cheeky, then be firm, they want the tourist trade and will usually side with you against the locals if you have a dispute . don't be too blatant when offering a bribe eg "that seems a heavy fine, in my country i would pay less"if they ask how much, you're in. i went once for 2 months and laughed with the moroccans every day.had 4 kids with me and never felt at risk from the locals[some of the campers were well dodgy though!] enjoy

Friends of mine in the village have just got back from Morocco and said this the last two weeks they were having problems with the Police in some parts they went to they were told that the government want to stop wild camping as they plan to invest in campsites as it is becoming very popular there for winter tourist, His wife is from morocco was talking to one of the workers on a site that the police took them to said that every person that the police took to the site they got paid. We should be over there end of December if all go,s well,

We Bought our tickets last winter from Jaun Carlos, they cost 180 euros, the ferry went from Algeceras to the new port of Tangier Med, we had no trouble getting through customs a man in a uniform came to the camper took our papers away and returned them in minutes, he then said enjoy our country.
We were straight on the motorway, NO TICKET TOUTS!! NO KIDS!! being pests, no bumpy roads with people trying to commit suicide in front of you, we have been to morocco lot's of times but that was our best trip. bambi 2
