Faceache etc are no different than using a mobile or a windows pc, all open and easy to get in, you take control. ;)

I must admit I have never been caught out by any scam - or at least any that were 'criminal'.

The only time I was caught out was by Amazon, where they changed the process a few years back.
When you went to purchase something you had to opt out rather than opt in to their trial for the "Prime" service.

Sneaky devils had gone to great lengths to tuck this away in a very obscure place on the page so that most people wouldn't notice it - which I didn't!

If you didn't cancel the trial after 30 days or so, they automatically signed you up for the year and took the money out of your account.
Fortunately I noticed they'd done this on the same day the money left my account and was able to cancel and get a refund.
But I wonder how many other people they caught out who didn't realise at the time and ended up subscribed for the year with no recourse for a refund?

I've detested Amazon ever since and go to great lengths to avoid using any of their services. 😝 :devilish:
I notice on the news that they've opened their first Amazon Fresh till-less store in London today.
Don't care how many more they open, or where in the country, I am going to continue to be a proper Luddite about this particular company.

There are scammers, and then there are big, greedy legal (!) scammers....

Ebay are the same, if you buy something which by law must be good for 6 mths and you can return for a full refund, but ebay only do a few days which is not in line with the law, got my son a ph last year and after 12 weeks it died, ebay dont want to know and every day i mail the seller he always just says its getting sorted, this is after i sent the goods back, out of pocket £54 bucks.

There's a lot to be said for bricks and mortar shopping, Trev (y)

Recently I ordered a new lockable door handle for the door into the garage from the kitchen.
Amazingly(!) I managed to find the same model as the one that had broken.

Went ahead and bought online through eBay with confidence because they had a proper premises, with a proper address and postcode, and a proper landline telephone number.

Best of all they were only down the road in Middledsbrough, so if anything not right about the product - not being delivered, not working, etc. - I would have easily been able to rock up on their doorstep and demand they sort it :devilish:

Yes, I love the convenience of being able to buy certain things online, but for me they have to be from trustworthy sources.
As for lots of other stuff, nothing beats face-to-face and being able to see, handle and try out the goods before buying.

People are buying cars online and having them delivered without seeing or trying them out first.
My nephew bought his latest car (second hand) online without seeing just before Christmas, delivered all the way to Glasgow from Devon.
That 100% doesn't appeal to me as a good way to purchase what is a pretty high value item, and definitely an item I would want to try out in person first !

There’s a way to end a vast majority of these scams. Make the provider of the media responsible.
From a software point of view I don’t see how difficult it will be for any provider to be able know when scams are being perpetrated via their network.
Hang on, I’d almost forgotten. It’s the twenty first century, that blissful time when no one has to take responsibility for anything....

An ad on tv currently......one of the furniture stores......you can book a personal virtual shopping experience........I just dont understand how you could buy a sofa without trying it out first. Face to face shopping .....not that i buy much.......very little i need......for me.

Amazon (and Netflicks for that matter) offer additional accounts for nowt.
We pay for Amazon Prime and our daughter gets it free.

She pays for Netflicks and she gets it for free.

Worth talking to friends and family to see whet you can arrange.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm seriously not a big consumer, unfortunately - for Amazon, that is, not me! ;)
So 'additional' accounts would have no real meaning or value in my personal world, they simply wouldn't get used.

I don't have any desire to pay for zillions more TV or film channels that I will never find the time - or inclination - to watch.🤷‍♀️
There are so many other things I can find to occupy myself with on a daily basis, and much better things to spend money on.
Plus there is enough stuff available on mainstream TV (amongst the crap!) or the internet to keep me occupied for when I do sit down and want to watch something.

At the beginning of Feb I bought a metal bucket on eBay from a "superstore" in Peterborough. Supposed to be sent 48hrs RM. Nearly two weeks later it hadn't arrived. Seller said they would send another or refund, I opted for a replacement. It didn't arrive either and I asked for and got a refund. A bucket arrived today! I have contacted the seller and offered to pay. They have replied and said no need and that they appreciate my honesty. So not all bad on eBay, it seems that Royal Mail were the villains in this particular sale. I wonder if the replacement bucket sent will also turn up at some point?!

I think a lot of sellers have ended up out of pocket because of the mucked-up deliveries the pandemic has caused since beginning of last year.

Royal Mail being the main culprit - although I use the word 'culprit' with reservations, because they are only culpable in the sense that they have had to cope with the same constraints and extra workloads as everyone else - people off sick or quarantining, new ways of working to accommodate covid rules etc.

Our local posties have been brilliant throughout, but they have had a tremendous amount of problems to cope with.

As with everywhere, the world is trying to limp along doing business in a pretty dystopian situation.
It's like trying to work with one hand permanently tied behind the back, or even from a total straitjacket!
