apologies if I posted this in the wrong place....I am still getting my bearings (now where is my OS map???)

Moggs Eye has been ruined.

Hi Corbyhugh,

We decided to go over to Moggs Eye last saturday having stayed over there last year and enjoyed it.

The council have now gated off the large field to the right of the toilet block where the motorhomes used to park and there is now only the small area where the cars park to cram on to together with all the cars which were there on saturday as they had come to enjoy the day on the beach.

The small car park has now been re-surfaced and they have put up wooden bollards to mark the bounday of the parking area we cannot now overhang on to the grass to fit in a parking space. There are no parking charges yet but its probably only a matter of time before a meter appears. Oh yes, there is also new notice saying NO CARAVANS OR OVERNIGHT CAMPING.

When we arrived on saturday afternoon we had to squeeze between two rows of cars parked on the approach road and park on a grass area at the end of the parking area.

We spent sunday and monday at Huttoft where most of the motorhomers were and on sunday it was all motorhomes / campers and cars were coming up, turning round and leaving because there was nowhere for them to park. No doubt this will ensure a letter or three of complaint to the council and get us banned off there soon! All of which would have been no problem had the other end of Moggs Eye been open.

I appreciate the council have seen fit to refurbish the car parks but they have done it at the expense of turning away motorhomers who would spend money in the area as we did at the shop in Sandilands.

We have enjoyed time in the area previously but we will now think twice about visiting again in future.

we were there 2wks ago and had to stay on huttoft,it p!ssed me off at how many m/h were parked length ways taking up 3-4 parking spaces oblivious to what the locals are thinking and doing about us :( i think this year will hear the death bell toll for us on that coast line
p.s. i think the gate on mogg eye will go missing again this summer :ninja: but height barriers will go up in the winter

Hi All,

Last weekend the gate was open at the end of Moggs Eye. We stayed at Huttoft and I Fully agree with Old_Arthur about parking sideways there. One arrogant B******d had parked his long motorhome sideways with his empty trailer on the back:mad2: so taking up the space of four or five cars. No wonder the locals get peeved. However in the morning I spoke to a couple of dog walkers and they where just happy to have someone to chat to for a couple of minutes.

Perhaps if the council marked out the bays people would take the Hint! Cheaper than a hight barrier

thanks to everyone for their replies and updates. It is a shame that such a great site has fallen to local bureaucracy, however, gates are slippy things and can often be misplaced, especially new ones.
I have also had a mail from someone local and they tell me there is space to camp up there still so I am going to go here this weekend to see if its possible and also to see if the revamp is met by a revamp in attitude by the local police (who were always happy in the past for the site to be used by campers and MH owners, just not by boyracers).
I will update after I get back.

I would hope that the police will still turn a blind eye to motorhomers on Hutttoft as us parking there tends to keep away the boy racers and druggies, it's also extra security for the overnight fishermen who go there. Safety in numbers etc.

While I'm on the subject, I noticed that Wolla Bank, the one before Anderby Creek is currently closed for " car park refurbishment ". I don't think wild campers used it much but I think it's put the nail in the coffin on that one now.

I can't think what possessed East Lindsey Council to close off Moggs Eye like that. They know it's popular with motorhomers and they have tolerated it for years so why change now? Especially at the start of the tourist season! The people with cars who use these places are either locals or tourists who spend their money in the holiday parks where their accommodation is.

Now that Huttoft will be busier than ever with motorhomers because they can't go to Moggs Eye it's only a matter of time that we will be banned from there due to " can't park " complaints from locals and car tourists.

You would think in these recession times the council ought to be encouraging us to visit their area and spend our money in their shops, pubs, chippies, restauraunts etc.

...was there at the weekend and happy to report that moggs eye is fully reopen again for campers and motorhomes as it always has been and even the gate at the bottom is now open to give acess to marsh yard as well.
