Hi All
I'm looking to modernise the van for this coming season and I'm looking for suggestions. I'm not too bad at the old DIY but I'm not the most creative person ever!
I'm specifically looking at the carpet, wall coverings and possibly the upholstery. Everything is in pretty good condition but the decor does not suit me as a 27 year old male ;)

Thanks for any help.

Hi Ross, as far as the carpeting is concerned, we took out the original carpeting as it is a light colour - not very practical when you have a mad collie (now stored for if/when we resell). We purchased an off-cut from Frank's for £5 and fitted it ourselves (a bit rough but looks fine). Once this becomes worse for wear due to previously mentioned mad collie, we will just do the same again, voila, a cheap and cheerful solution. Hope this helps. :)

get rid of the carpet, lay a plain or laminate wood effect vinyl, paint the walls a light colour washable acrylic, couple of bright colour rugs, reupholster with a plain textured material.if you can ,change the cupboard doors for a lighter colour wood or paint them, new handles--oooh i can see it now!

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking about changing the carpet with vinyl so it's easier to clean and looks better than the brown!

I was never sure what type of paint to use on the interior walls so I may even give the acrylic a go.

I tend to go for plain colours. Red, grey, purple, and blue. I don't mind a darker carpet and curtains so long as the walls and ceiling are a very light colour. My floor area is small so removable carpet not a problem... and it's warm.

Also more mirrors can add to the illusion of space.

We are in the process of changing the upholstery in our van.

If you are looking for modern fabrics, you will struggle. It took us ages to find something suitable as they are nearly all old fashioned, so we have opted for a fairly plain fabric. We have been waiting 5 weeks for it to arrive. :mad1:

For my last van, I bought a piece of cheap carpet and took the original one out. My van is parked on a sloping driveway and the original was loose fitting and a death trap to walk on on the slope. i got one with a sprayed on rubber underlay (not foam backed) and it stayed put on the lino underneath.
