Mobile Phone Modem

We need wifi occasionally, and the Wifi booster discussed by ***** in other forums looks great.

So whilst on that thought I remember that my wifes phone has 0.5 Gb of data that she never uses. The manual says that you can connect the PC & Phone via a USB lead and the PC can use the phone as a modem.

I appreciate that it depends on the 3G signal strength but seems ideal to get my monies worth from Vodafone, esp in quieter areas where there is less chance of picking up BT Fon/MacDonalds etc.

Anyone tried this out?

yes, it works,
i am with t-mobile and i regularly use my phone as modem link up with pc using 3G
the download speed can be very slow at times,

Yep.

We ONLY use this method. On Vodafone. OK for checking emails, bank etc. Can be slow but when in MH we are usually too busy doing other stuff to sit and surf the net.

This is very easy to do, you may need to install some software onto the PC, but check your phones Term & Conditions as some contracts do not allow you use your data allowance as a modem.

Also do not use this when roaming abroad
