Moans and whines - delivery charges for remote places

Ive been a wild camper for many a year --- so my version of the well known song goes.

I even have a copy of "How to **** in the Woods: An Environmentally Sound Approach to a Lost Art"

BUT I decided my campervan - C15 romahome - needed a porta potti - appropriate to my new (older) stage in life of motorhomes rather than tents - I considered bog in a bag and luggaloo but eventally decided that a real porta potti was the answer - had to be a very small one to fit into the van in the only appropriate storage space

TOWSURE had the right one - the PP335 is the only one that fits in. And Towsure seemed to have a good reputation---A bit expensive at £107 but offered free delivery to UK. So I cheerfully ordered - and added appropriate liquids and enironmentally degradable bog rolls to my basket - total over £120 BUT the main page said free delivery to UK.

NOT SO - apparently Towsure know more about the Scottish referendum on being part of UK than I do - Apparently I don't count as being part of UK.

They will not deliver to me. I was extremely peeved to say the least - after all Skye is now mainland as we have toll free bridge. I told them that their web page is misleading (and incidentally have reported the issue to highland council who are currently investigating web sites that offer FREE UK delivery then exclude the highlands and islands -even when there is a toll free bridge.

To cut long story short - I have not ordered from them but then found another site

About Us :

which offered the same product £20 cheaper with very clear delivery prices and for me a reasonable post and package service - I am still quids in

Apologies for the whine - I realise to most of you it is totally irrelevant - but you don''t get any discounts for living nearer suppliers so why should I pay extra for living further away? Long live Royal Mail with its simple pricing policy - I would be very unhappy if they privatise Royal Mail and we loose the one price system

I can fully understand your annoyance Cedas, glad you found an alternative supplier, and cheaper. Job well done.

Yes the big names need to get real in these days !
It is no wonder that retail businesses are failing daily as the world is changing fast !
I bought a saniflo for a customer the other week and pricing it up at the plumbers merchants £300 + vat which should have been at a trade price !
The customer had been quoted £600 + vat by a local company to supply and fit a new one so I was asked to quote .
Got online and bought the exact same product for £260 including vat delivered to my door next day !

oooooo Charlie, your so moneysupermarket :lol-053:

well what you have to do is find a member o n here coming your way and get them to pick it iup if ican be got local to them and drop it off for you i sure a member would not mind doing that for you

Not defending Towsure in any way but unfortunately all courier companies such as TNT, UPS, Securicor etc charge considerably more for deliveries to remote places such as Scottish Highlands and Offshore and Northern Ireland.

There is either insufficient traffic or ferry costs to make to journey viable for them unlike the Post Office who deliver everywhere on a daily basis.

ParcelForce can be cheaper but to take odd parcels to a Post Office for processing when you are dealing with volumes going with ones contract carriers is not viable due to labour costs.
