Makes me sad to read this, we will be less welcome in more places due to a minority who don't respect the environment and there surroundings.

Not much talk about drunks who come out of pubs and sh-t/ pi-h up entries, people gardens and shop door ways, maybe they should also be forced into camp sites.

It's easy to see who's responsible and should be banned what I can't understand is why their never caught did they leave those tents as well ? There always seem to be park warden / police to move on genuine people but never to catch these people. Just easier to put a ban on all camping to difficult to catch the culprits

Well, well, and not a motorhome or a camper to be seen anywhere.
What this may do is show who the real culprits are.
And none of these morons have been banned from anywhere, and it's unlikely they ever will.
We have all witnessed poor behaviour from these types in stop overs, only to return a year later to see a sign basically saying we don't want you here,
or a freshly painted barrier.

I've witnessed similar problems on official campsites. Not so much with rubbish but discarded tents, chairs, sleeping bags etc. When talking to the owners it's clear that some younger people just buy cheap tents etc for a one off trip (party) then leave them behind. How do you police it? without making it more difficult for responsible people. One way could be to fund more wardens from revenue taken by the tourism industry. Would you be prepared to pay a toll to enter each area of natural beauty. I would iff it put an end to this behaviour and I as a responsible person could continue to enjoy these areas in my Van.

If the toll was reasonable I would, but I just can't think how it could possibly be done. You can't have toll booths for a variety of reasons. I haven't given this enough thought but there has been a lot of discussion recently about our relationship with local councils and a voluntary system through the caravanning organisations where donations are made to the area you are visiting would go a long way with public relations. As stated though this is straight off the top of my head.

Things like this can never be policed, wardens go home a 5pm same as every one else, forests and some parks are as dark as hell at night and these people hide in dark tree covered spots well away from police/ wardens etc, as others have said they buy cheap or second hand tents and just leave behind, you would be surprised what i have gathered up over the years, all as new.
Some buy cheap cars and drive to spain from ireland and dump when returning home.

One way forward is to use number plate recognition cameras, there are loads in England. It isn't until you look for them that you will be surprised how many there are. For an area like Scotland/Wales you wouldn't need that many, most built up areas probably have them on the outskirts.
Of course it would mean another control on our freedom.
There is a more scary way of course to resolve the issue and most of us carry one. Your mobile device can put you at the scene with date and time.

No use in legal terms as can be date changed etc,as for street cams ulster is full of them but folk wear hoodies and change plates on cars and will not answer or talk to police.

Good points. I was thinking more in line with 24/7 funding. Finding people in dark forests isn't an issue these days. Police in my city are using Drones more and more to track criminals at night. Scary thought that.

It is actually possible to track anyone who has a smartphone, with correct date, time and place, even if you turn it off. It however involves government intervention. The tracking part uses gps if mobile network is unavailable.

I very much doubt these are proper wild campers or genuine holiday makers. Why would they leave their tents and equipment behind?
I would suggest this is or was an encampment used by homeless people who were probably moved on by the police or council.
Can't imagine it being homeless people, they know the value of shelter and they wouldn't be leaving tents and bedding behind.
These are young folks out partying, their parents probably think they are wonderful, not proper ravers though, no balloons.

Isnt this the article about Loch Lomond from earlier in the week?Notice in the article Jim Hardcastle is having a dig at Campervans saying majority dont have toilets inferring these Campervan Occupants are leaving loo paper and excrement strewn across beauty spots.Im sorry but genuine Wildcampers In Motorhome or Campervans dont behave like this.iF this is the article about Loch Lomond then I thought the culprits were caught and charged?Shame now we are getting tarred with that dirty paintbrush again even though we are trying to promote Aires and the benefits of Motorhomes visiting areas and spending cash.In the article they also mention Campsites being cheaper due to the lower Vat.That is not going to make any difference as the Site Owners will pocket the difference and still charge the same inflated expensive rates for a small patch of grass.

TBH. I was shocked to find a similar mess left around Loch Ken by fishermen when visiting in 2018. Discarded fishing gear (including cheap umbrellas, broken tackle boxes, beer cans, food containers) and a fire left smoldering. They were probably from not so far away. It does sadden me somewhat.

Can't remember which post it was on but I think it was the Kielder Forest authorities that praised motorhomers for not leaving a mess. But rare, admittedly!

And any motorhomer leaving a Mess anywhere then I would hate to visit their houses? Wonder if they live the same at home.Majority take their rubbish with them AND clean up around their pitch of other rubbish left by previous occupants/campers

I stopped believing even the date printed on the Sun when it was paper news. They are worse than Facebook for finding any truth. They have collected bit from various sources for some sensationalism as usual
