Micro 2.0 Genset problem

Hi , I have a Micro 2.0 genset generator on board my hymer and up to last month have had no problems with it. The problem I have with it now is when I have start it which is no problem as it cracks up first time every time , but once I let go of the starting switch the unit stops . I think it’s a relay which is not coming in because normally when starting, the gauge by the starting switch moves to a point of low , norm or charge it’s not now. If anyone can advise me in this matter I would be grateful .

We had a car at work that did that years ago i.e. no feed to the coil on 'run' only on 'crank'. On Vauxhalls this was caused by the faulty balast resistor in the loom. (In case you don't know to give a big fat spark on cranking they run a 9v coil which is fed by 12v on crank, and then on run it's fed via a resistor giving it 9v).
On other makes it can simply be a faulty ignition/starter switch.

Hi Nosha , Thank-you for your reply, I understand the use of balast resisters, but I think this problem is still down to a relay .When I press the starting button the unit crack's up and runs as long as I keep my finger on the button but does not show the unit charging ( generating power ). I have managed to download a manual on the micro but not a wiring diagram.

Good luck Sparky, I'm NO auto-electrician; you could be right especially as you say it doesn't show a charge - with no wiring diagram I would suggest trying to follow the wiring until you come across a control box/fuse box/relay etc, the trouble is a lot of contol units are 'solid state' or epoxy filled which is a pain. Let us know how you get on!
