Hi Folks
Dont know if anyone else is aware but ive been having a battle with both the DVLA and Mersey tolls over the classification of my "motor caravan" registered with DVLA But due to the fact on the V5 stating it is a Light Goods Vehicle for toll purposes it comes under Class 3 even though Mersey Gateway site lists vehicles under 3.5 tonne and up to 8 seats as Class 2.
Mersey Gateway told me yesterday that All Motor Caravans now come into Class 3! so this means if you have a small "Motor Caravan" you are going to be charged £6 per crossing one way instead of £2 each way.
DVLA told me that they cannot change the classification from Light Goods Vehicle! yet I also have a LWB Transit La Strada which is 3.5 yet that has on the V5 Private Light Goods Vehicle (PLG) on the V5!
These classifications seem to be a nightmare and open to interpretation by whoever your speaking to at the time!
I wonder how many other Motor Home Clubs are aware of this and is there anyway of collectively making a representation to the Minister of Transport Chris Grayling MP to get this changed as there must be thousands of small Motor Caravans that come under the 3.5 tonne limit, like VWs and many other makes.
Im not clever enough to start one of these online petition things but I'll feel someone needs to take this matter up and make other Motor Caravan users aware of the situation.
As a foot note all crossings over or under the Mersey are now Tolled unless Ive been misinformed .
Anyone cat any thoughts on this matter.
