Mercedes 811D Power Steering Fluid ?

I have some ATF with me so I would assume from Google Research that ATF is OK to use to top up the Power Steering reservoir ? Any comments or suggestions ?

ATF is fine I used it in all power steerings of multiple vehicles and makes and have never had a problem. To my mind Mercedes market what they say is the only fluid for their systems but in my humble opinion any damage non synthetic or synthetic oils would cause will be outlived by the natural life of the particular parts. Phil

P.s. In anycase your only topping it up not refilling the system.

Thanks @Squiffy - Still got an annoying squeal with the power steering but I think the belt might have some play in it so that will be the next job
