got my eye on a merc 207 on ebay. wondered about availability of spares though as there are virtually none on ebay and cant find a supplier on't web. anyone know where i can look, cheers, bob
I've just sold one and sourced a superb source of spares locally. If you phone your local Mercedes garage and ask for details of their parts supplier for commercial vehicles, you'll find they can get everything and prices are pretty reasonable.
In terms of body parts there are quite a few places that do them on the internet and on E Bay - make sure you have it set to cover a search beyond the UK! Also, there's a few places in the UK - here's just one:
Hi i have a LHD 207 lwb from Germany and its 1977, you can get Engine G/Boxs and second hand spares from "Prestige AllParts" in Oldham (01706849892) they just deal in Merc's nowt elseand they have a fitting service. we have just come back from 10 country tour of europe, on one of there second hand engines, and it was great, no leaks rattles or bangs,
Can't really add much to the preceding posts, except to say if you've yet to sight the van make sure you check out the body, especially if it's a panel van.
They are notorious for rust, most notably the windscreen scuttle and wheel arches, rust being the main reason for a premature appointment with the crusher. The mechanicals generally are considered bullet proof.
Will be handy if you're a good welder!
As previously said check the bodywork especialy the wheel arches and edge of the baulk head on the chassis cab and sills and rear arches on the panel van
ive just done the arches on my 207 tabbert together with the steps ,the only bit of the chassis that seems to suffer is the front spring mounting airea underneath the hangers
drove my last one into the scrap yard at 386000 miles and it was still reliable mechanicaly just rotted out due to salt water use (it was 25 years old )and had a hard life
most parts are interchangeable across lots of models so are easy once you get to know which
