Will try to keep it brief. Merc van 1996. Some months ago went to start van, heard chattering sound from under drivers seat, also no glow plug light on. Mechanic put new earth wire on under seat and it was OK till a couple of weeks ago. Same thing happened again, jiggled the wire and it started and ran but no turbo. Day after it was fine. Recently done it again, jiggled the wire, but now edc light is on, and no turbo again. Any ideas? Also noticed rear brake light not working, could that affect turbo. Fuses OK.

What van is it ? is it a sprinter ? are you sure it is the turbo thats not working as with having the edc light would suggest that it has gone into limp mode, any electrical problems wouldn't affect the turbo,
Richard

If jiggling the cable has an effect then i would take it off clean the contact area, inspect the cable and renew if necessary.

Hi I dont know a lot Im no mechanic I had a sprinter the brake lite went on it, it went into limp mode just wouldn't go I went into the mercedes commercials at wolverhampton the guys there were great they took out the front driver side lite and theres a sensor behind it they put one there test sensors in to make sure it was that before charging me for one sure enough it was the problem they fitted a new one I left there very happy, hope this helps & you manage to have it sorted soon Jo

Thanks for the replies so far. It is a sprinter, and thanks for the suggestions about limp mode, it may well be, as it has only happened since problems with starting which seem to be related to something electrical. Will also check the terminal tommorow. It is booked into the garage on Thursday, I just like to have some idea about what it might be.
