We were thinking of going to Matlock Bath this week end, but my mate has been today on his motorbike and he say's that there are signs in the railway coach park saying £70 fine if you camp there. Has anyone stayed there or anywere nearby recently.

John.

I have never overnighted at Matlock but I have seen quite a few at the far end overspill car park.
However Cromford Wharf is just down the road and is only about a 15 minute walk away and is a much nicer and quieter location.
You could drive in if you wanted.

we used to stay there quite a lot before coming down to wales to live .there were notices saying no camping but i cannot remember seeing the fine bit( i never bother looking for these notices cannot be bothered) . anyway quite a few vans used to stay on there in fact twice a year one old couple used to stay for 2 weeks and the parking attendents used to go to the van for there morning cuppa as ***** states cromford lock is a good bet ps dont overnight in the field next to the carpark the farmer is a nutter but you can park free all day

Hi I have stayed at the hurt arms hotel site in Ambergate 7 miles from Matlock Bath for many years.I have always had good food and it is nice to relax and have a beer after a day's sightseeing.Good luck.

we called at cromford a couple of weeks ago and noticed that theres a 2 ton weight limit in the carpark so we didnt risk it ,and parked for the day in the arkwright carpark

That notice has been there for a few years.
We even had a couple of meets there without any problems:cool:
But obviously there is always a chance!

I go to the area to trace family history as the County records office is in Matlock. I usually camp at the Square and Compass site just outside in Darly Dale.

Can you get information about Neanderthals then? :p:p;)

isnt the headquarters for neanderthal tracing based in donny ;):D

We have just stopped on the car park by the coach park near the railway station for 2 nights, to try our new motorhome out, also says no vehicles over 2500kg, had no problems with parking attendants at all.

John.

no you wont have any probs there , there is a walk from the car park through the woods that ends up down by the river lovely walk and in the summer some people pitch tents in the field next to the car park
