We have not long returned from 2 weeks wildcamping round the coast of Brittany from Roscoff to 30 miles S of St Nazarre. Apart from the ferry costs (Plymouth/Roscoff - High) all it cost us was 2 Euros plus food & fuel, and the 2 euros was for water/dumping at an Aire that charged!
We had no problems finding places on the coast to wildcamp, loads of French M/homes doing the same, almost any minor road on the coast gave plenty of places, usually large dirt car parks, or even designated "Camping Car" places.
All right on the coast and no height barriers! Can't recommend it high enough.

Doing the same thing in a couple of weeks, It's a bit cheeper than over here just spent 6 nights in the newforest £163. Last year spent 28 day's in France spent 11euros on camping and parking using aire's.
