Manchester to France....and in between!?

Further to my other post re: First timers to France in July for 3 weeks.

I am starting to lean to doing a kinda of low plod to France and via some nice areas on the way.

Slog from Manchester to Devon\Cornwall, then Dorset, follow the coast to the South Downs and over to Dover for the a few days in France. Now I am aware that on that basis I may never get to France. Which would not be end of the world.

Questions are:

I presume in July turning up on the day at the ports wont be an issue or will I be hit in the wallet for this?

Any top tips for areas or camping sites to stay at in the aforementioned areas.

In case you don't know, Site Supporters have access to the Wild Camping Maps & POI Files over in the appropriate forum.

These files when downloaded have a Google Earth file that you can load for online browsing, and satnav POI files for most types of satnav device.

Almost 1,500 wilding spots and pub stopovers are listed throughout England, Wales and Scotland, and the information is updated regularly.

I'm sure you'll find it useful finding places on your travel south ...

Just click on the link at the top right to find out about becoming a Site Supporter.

Hi David.
Think you may get hit in the wallet by just turning up. For example when we are returning to France, (as we never book our return journey till we've had enough of visiting relations and friends) we find that the shortest time we can allow to get a reasonable price is about a week beforehand. That's what we find with P&O anyway.
Cant help with stopover places in England, but it would be a shame if you didn't make it to France, as in my opinion you would find motorhoming much less stressful here. Even if you just stayed in the North. Check out this link.
AireCampingCar.com : Toutes les aires de services pour Camping-Cars, dans toutes les régions de France).
We are about to do the trip in reverse and are having the same concerns about stopovers in England.
Bonne route
Nolly.
